Sorry to hear about this mate, losing your dad is the second worst thing in the world, but as you mentioned, he is no longer suffering and is at peace. It was the same with my dad, although he made up his mind he wanted to go, and so gave up fighting. The only thing i will say, is, make time for yourself to mourn his passing, dont try to be the strong one for everyone, you need to let the grief out, dont bottle it up whatever you do.
Really sorry to hear this. I was travelling 270 miles each way most weekends to visit my dad who was dying from lung cancer.
It eventually got him but I will always remember sitting in the working mans club sipping some ale & shooting some pool with him.
He also got one of his dying wishes, a ride in my Elise & his smile on that day will be my memory of him forever.
Just remember the good days & you will get through this.

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no tears in a gloom-filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little – But not for long
And not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me – But let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take,
And each must go alone,
It’s all a part of the Master’s plan
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart
Go to your friends that we know,
And bury your sorrows in doing good works,
Miss me – But let me go.
We had this at me dads funeral two years ago. It helped bring out a lot of grief and put things slowly on the road to recovery.

Very sad.
But you can pay your Dad back for everything he did for you by reading your OP at the funeral, word for word. It'll be the hardest thing you ever do, and will no doubt have everyone in tears (including yourself) - but your Dad will be there for you still, and no doubt giving you a pat on the back saying thanks Son.
