How far away from your house is he smoking it? I have a joint a couple of times a week outside my house and never had any complaints from the neighbours, if they said something I'd just go smoke it at the end of the garden but I'd not be very receptive to the idea of not doing it anywhere on my own property.

I'm a live and let live kind of chap and it is a bank holiday weekend but I quite like to open my window in summer without the smell of cannabis floating in. It is my neighbours 20ish year old son (95% sure). We get on well and I don't want the police involved. Do I have a quiet word with him, the parents or let it go?
Does it bother you more or less than the smell of BBQs/Bonfires wafting in?

Just interested to know whether it's the smell that bothers you or the fact that it's cannabis?

Well lets look at this logically. It's STILL illegal. Albeit not likely to land you in court. If your neighbours did complain, why not just smoke indoors?

Going a bit Off topic. You know who the best criminals are? The ones you don't know are criminals. The amount of ratty chav types I see smoking weed at bus stops or in parks or in their cars makes me laugh at thier idiocy. The "why you having a go at me for innit" laugh

I'd guess the issue is that if his misses gets pregnant again there's a higher than 87% chance it's not his if this continues.

I was concerned that the smoke could have potential to be harmful to children. Mental health issues arising later spring to mind when I think of children and drugs. I don't know of a bbq causing long term harm to children.

You're joking right?

It's a known carcinogen that with increased exposure will leave your male children (girls are okay) impotent; on any child under 12 it only takes about 15 or so secondary inhalations of the newer style 'gangsta deep weed' ( which they're all smoking now) to, well, essentially fire blanks.

Buddy. I'm off to bed (3 hours ahead of you) and I as much as it amuses me, you're serious about this... I've been pulling your plonker.

Your kids are going to be more affected by standing in the kitchen with the microwave on than they are having their nose receptors pick up some defused weed from next door.

-try using your iPad or wifi enabled device next to a working microwave-

Live and let live and if the smell is really bothering you, ask the next door neighbours kid to smoke at the bottom of the garden.

Life is great, live it.

Night, night.

I think you should get the Spanish inquisition around there to have a word with him, he won't be expecting that. Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition. If he is smoking that sort of stuff you don't know where else it might lead. I personally would not like it. What if you had friends around for a garden party and you had that drifting over your fence, hardly creating a good impression of the neighborhood is it?

Apologies, I didn't mean flaccid, impotent, some such medical nonsense in the states - 40 year study on secondary inhalers - suggested a 87.3% lower chance of conceiving.

It was peer reviewed and published in the new scientist, one of my editors picked it up a year or two back IIRC.

They're probably laughing at your stupidity, they do it because they won't get in trouble for it and there's nothing wrong with it.

My morals aren't dictated to me by law. I've never had an issue with any neighbour over my smoking because I'm considerate and they have luckily been sensible people. If they did, I wouldn't stop just because it was illegal but I'd try to find a compromise.

btw, a technical point but the consumption of weed isn't illegal, it's the possession that is.

I have had this very same problem and the stuff stinks and while I don't agree with drug taking I don't have any problems with others doing it. However when their habit directly affects your own quality of life with a smell you can't stand and in my case the windows didn't even need to be open, something has to be done.

I asked nicely if he would go to the bottom of his garden away from the house, his children and mine, he did this happily, but if he didn't I wouldn't have had a problem with reporting him.

The stuff stinks and I don't think users can appreciate just how much it stinks.

That's not fair, if we didn't appreciate how much it stinks we wouldn't need to go outside to smoke it biggrin

I actually dislike ciggie smoke much more.

Happy to have a joint inside but I don't like cigarettes inside at all.
