Normally not after Postie has been/if not expecting a delivery,
Ours comes anytime from 10 until 4 so quite hard to judge, plus either of our "kids", neither of whom live at home but still have stuff delivered here, or my wife, could have ordered something.

It's never occurred to me not to answer the door though. Indeed it's not even locked during the day!

We did used to have some friends who boarded up their front door on the inside and disconnected the doorbell. They were weird though.

On the fear front I'd be most concerned that people calling were casing the joint so not answering would indicate the house was unoccupied.

Very rarely nowadays. I only answer if it is someone (or something via post/courier) that I am expecting.

Got right royally pizzed off answering the door only for it to be a parcel for a feckin neighbour redface The last straw was taking in a fking kids garden slide!! Filled my pissing hallway, s! If it's not parcels for neighbours it fking god botherer's or doorstep chunts (charity muggers) or "do you want your trees trimming, to be sure" types.

So no, I don't answer the door they can all fk off!

Of course I do. Dear god people need to put their tin foil hats away. It's normally a delivery man with yet more stuff the wife has bought online or the kids next door asking for their football back.

Have to admit we never answer the door at all
What if it is your friends, family or a neighbour? This is the bit I don't understand.
They know the secret knock....

Always, the pizza makes a mess when they squeeze it through the letterbox.

It's very very rare not to answer it as it's mostly deliveries or a neighbour. I get the occasional charity or religious type but I just tell them I'm not interested and we all get on with our day.

I check through the spy hole to have an idea who is there, but can't recall not answering it

I have been known to simply close it again without saying a word if the caller's purpose is of no interest

We never use our front door, rarely answer it if somebody rings the bell unless we are expecting anybody.

We always use the side door, anybody we know just walks in without knocking so if somebody rings the bell it's probably those low life s from Anglian again, or Jehovahs Witnesses.
Very much this for me too although it's not Anglian (whatever that is) or the Jehovahs (don't visit) that are the main culprits. The SNP on the other hand were particularly bad for this in the last election and I'm thankful everyone who knows me either uses the side door* or if I'm expecting a delivery sends me an email to warn me first. Thanks to this I tend to be able to safely judge whether or not it's worth my while answering the doorbell but if anyone can come up with a genuine reason why I should change this I'm willing to listen

There's nothing like watcing the charity mob walk past your kitchen window to ring your doorbell only to get no answer, then have to walk back past your kitchen window to go on to the next unsuspecting mug.

The really tenacious ones come round the side & knock, that rarely ends well.
A kitchen at the front of the house? Must be the gate house i presume? smile

It's never occurred to me to not answer the door at all unless I know someone is coming..

Sometimes I will ignore it when I'm busy (work from home) especially if I know it's a delivery driver asking to leave things here for neighbours or something like that (had stuff here for a few weeks before they eventually come to collect it)... Also wary because the previous tenant has a lot of debt collectors after him. 1 particular neighbour likes to knock for a chat which is annoying but I tolerate it. We don't answer the door late at night though because of the car outside and all the horror stories of them being stolen.

The thing that really bugs me is junk leaflets. I have a sign saying No Junk Mail and I still get a million pizza leaflets and other such nonsense deposited through my letterbox.

If I know there are cold callers in my street, or those charity collecting types trying to sign you up to a direct debit, I generally ignore it. From my living room window I can see who is working their way round the doors easily. (For some reason my street seems to be plagued with cold callers on a regular basis).

Otherwise I will answer it, as it could be a neighbour or the window cleaner wanting paid.

I treat my font door like my phone. If I don't want to answer it, I don't answer it.

By the time I've got to the front door they've usually given up and gone. I generally don't bother anyway.

Everyone I know comes round to the side door or the back door. If they're open I'm home and they just come in.

I usually hide under the bed if there's a knock on the door.

Hang on...you don't answer if someone knocks your front door? Am I understanding this correctly?

You don't answer a knock at your front door? Ever?

I am utterly speechless.

I never answer the door on the first buzz (unless I'm expecting a delivery) as I figure if it's important they will ring it more than once.
Used to live in a flat and was the first name on the buzzer list so on a multiple times on a daily basis used get all manner of people trying to get into the flats, pizza, woken by drunk people asking for their mate, people who have 'forgotten' their keys etc... so in the end I disconnected the intercom buzzer in the flat to escape the harassment.
The street next to me has signs up saying 'no cold calling zone' and a number to report them, imo every street should be by default.
Think I'm gonna get a sign similar to this as I can't remember the last time I actually had the door bell ring and it was actually someone I knew, I get most small deliveries sent to work and I'm always available via the internet (facebook/what'sapp etc...) so have no reason for any unannounced visits by friends.

confused Most people don't mind taking in a parcels for their neighbours, a few hours of it in the hallways is fine.

I'm equally speechless that you feel the need to do so

Do you answer the phone every time it rings when you're watching a film / playing a game? Or do you check the call register and make an informed decision? It's the same thing
