It would take a substantial concentration of gas to ignite, but even so it's enough to deliver a scare.

I'll never forget the story of a friend's boyfriend coming home after a night out and deciding to cook a fry-up.

He 'came to' on the sofa several hours later to find the frying pan melted on the hob - but worst of all - the fumes had killed his Mum's budgie.

Not funny I know, but hehe

My parents got phoned at 4.30am sometime in february. It was the fire brigade saying that my gran had put the kettle back on it's stand empty, but the switch was still on.

The fumes gutted the house and the only door that was closed in the house was her bedroom. If that door had been open...

My gf will just flick the kettle on without checking it has water. I've see what an element can do without water around it, the room was very bright.

So Everytime I use the kettle it gets a load more than needed, so when she comes along, there will be water in it. Sod saving the planet, save my bloody kitchen!

As was said earlier - it's the switch that causes the spark - not the lights. If they've come on without blowing you up - dont then switch them off!!

I only ever once pushed my luck with my guardian angel. At silly speeds on a particular road near north newbold, as the suspension compressed, the back stepped out and i honestly thought mrs slopes and i were going to go through the cottage on this particular road, and it was also the closest i have come to stting myself since i was a baby. I have learned not to buy fast cars and drive like a tt since then.

At 7pm tonight I decided to be good and cook some pasta for dinner. 4 hours later, I went back to the kitchen and flicked on the lights; the switch is outside. As I opened the door, I realised I hadn't turned the gas off fully.. yikes

I stood there and realised just how close I came to a serious explosion. I don't really know how it didn't go up - there are 9 50w halogens in the kitchen.. Luckily the window has been open a bit, but still...

I'm sitting here still shaking, talk about a close call.
I did the same a few weeks ago yikes
