Great! She's in T4 looking for a Travelex now. Fingers crossed.
If not, Amex are my next call.

Thanks all!

Do either of you have an AMEX card?
Yes, she has AMEX.
Give AMEX a call, they are usually pretty st hot at getting you money or a card anywhere in the world within 24hrs.

Infact if you called AMEX and said you had lost the card they would guarantee replacement within 24hrs - but might just be worth asking even though its not lost.

They are usually very, very helpful with these kind of things.

Best thing about an AMEX imo.
AMEX are VERY good like this, but it has to be an actual AMEX card, not a credit card from another provider which uses AMEX. Ie you want get that service with a loyalty type credit card from people like MBNA which happen to be "AMEX".

She can definitely get a pre-pay card using the passport as ID. There is a Travelex branch airside in T3 and probably the others too.
Travelex said no >:-(

They said only way is Western Union.

Wife now very unhappy. Anyone reading this in T4, lend her a quid.

She's contacting AMEX now. At least she has the dollars, if they were in the wallet, she'd really be bricking it.

That's a pain about Travelex, I suppose they've probably got some ID/payment requirements which would rule her out. At least if she's at the hotel for a week it provides ample time for AmEx to sort something, or for you to sort out a cash transfer.

For future reference, I tend to have a spare credit card secreted in main luggage... Helps in situations like this.

I would have been on the phone asking Travelex before she got there - to save her the effort wink

Surely you could just get the cards couriered to her?

TNT and FedEx offer a quick service to that area. She should be fine - and just tell the hotel the score when she gets there??

In the mean time, what about the Western Union idea (as already suggested) for some walking around money?

Cheers

Surely this is a serious WIN situation, she has enough local currency money for buying vital items, you can just wire money to the hotel to pay the bill, and without any other money, she can't go and spend it on some unecessary shoes or an Orphan or two whilst she's out there ;-)

(sorry, i know that was no use to you, but by now she's on the plane surely??)

If that's the biggest win you can think of you have some happily married friends.

I'm surprised no one has suggested cancelling the return leg of her flight and changing your phone number yet.

You could always use the concierge service on your Amex to send cash to hotel. They'll make a charge for it, but a bloke with an envelope full of money will turn up.
