Horrible little bds.

Could you or her make a note of date/time when these incidents occur over the next couple of weeks? Then send them to the Chief Constable or just the local press? CCTV would help, even if it's just from a £50 IP camera from your bedroom window or something. A still shot from that in your local paper would attract attention.

Or, as I would prefer, do what Soovy suggests. I keep considering this after my recent break-in.

CCTV: you'll be branded a paedo
Follow them home: police speak to parents, parents tell police, "woteva. me kids got nuffink ta do innit deys engils. got any marlbras on ya?"

Your only option is to kill the old woman and make it look like a suicide. When the police ask, say she was so stressed out with the youths. The Daily Mail will pester the families involved and things should die down after that.

Because if you don't fake the suicide, it could end up in a real suicide, judging by past events. mad

This is why I am voting Tory next time, too. They are Labour youths. With a bit of luck someone bigger will show them right from wrong. Sadly, it won't happen for a long time. The only thing you can do is keep pestering your MP and the police until they start doing something more useful than planning their Christmas parties.
Sadly until such time as the police are allowed to do their jobs, or, we are allowed to fight back against the little "angels", then this will continue to happen, and there isnt a damn thing anyone can do about it. This is a sad state of affairs, but thats where we are thanks to the likes of those who thought myra hindley was a changed person, or, that it is wrong to smack your child if it has down wrong.

Deffo get the local press involved.

Sometimes seeing things in black and white can make things clear to people.
It wont make them feel guilty and stop, but might make them think 'maybe it's not so tough to attack a granny' and shame them a bit.

Do you know anyone locally who is a bit "handy" - this happened near me, and questions were asked in the East End "locals" pub owned by an ex boxer - a few days later the miscreants left town and haven't been seen since.
Similar story here, a group of young lads were vandalising cars weekly and the police could not catch them in the act. They soon stopped and disappeared after encountering a bunch of gentlemen who allegedly removed their fingernails with pliars hurl
Id pay someone for the service, Id like nothing more than for them to get their comupance.
Go to the "locals" boozer. Buy a few drinks, mention it. Pretty sure it'll be sorted out for you.
hehe Soovy, you need to get out of the city more...

Had a similar issue with vandalism where i grew up (in a nice area as well) only two or three kids involved but at least the police were interested. Problem is there isn't much they can do without evidence. We ended up luring out the culprits out in the daylight (won't give details how) and then tracing the culprits back to their homes. Oddly enough, they lived literally round the corner (few council houses dotted around the area). Let's just say that the parents received a tiny bit of their own medicine, and one assumes they got the message because the problems stopped. IMO targetting the kids won't work. Sorry to hear about your situation but moving is probably the best way out if the police cannot help and gangs of delinquents are involved.

If you do decide to take matters into your hands and things spiral out of control do NOT pretend to be a policeman, as when the real police turn up unexpectedly this could get extremely embarassing for you. Especially if the police won't back your story up, even though you're winking at them redface

Don't play all your cards at once. A carefully worded letter to the most senior officer asking whether, as they cannot help, does he believe that letters to the press will.

Remember the police fear the bad publicity more than the average foul mouthed oik.

Of course if that doesn't work then you have something solid to give the press.

This might sound silly BUT is quite effective... buy an old air raid siren, give it to the old girl, have a meeting of all the households in the street and surrounding area, old girl gets hassle, kicks off the air raid siren, every man and his dog comes out to play. The gang mentality will disappear in an instant and they'll find a new area to terrorise after a few instances. Intimidate them back, you don't even have to touch them.

Are you trying to get the poor old lady arrested?

A few suggestions -

Firstly get your house up for sale before she does, if you think this could be a downward spiral in the area move before the area gets a bad reputation and all the reports of vandalism make your area look like a high crime area.

Secondly, the old lady could purchase a Mini Mosquito http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/mini-mosquito found this via google. Could be a good deterent.

Thirdly, see if you can discretely find out the addresses of some of the youths involved, if they are in council houses or social housing then there will be an Estate Manager you can contact. If you keep a diary of events they will then use this as evidence to serve warnings on the parents repeated warnings can and will lead to them either being rehoused somewhere else or losing their rights to the property.

Fourthly, as has been said make enquiries about known local faces. It may sound a bit OTT but when my GF was having problems with neighbours last time I was working away I was advised about some gentlemen that will conduct what they call a pre-teeth visit. They will visit the youths home and advise them and their parents that said behaviour has to stop and that the next visit they make will see them leaving with the occupants teeth. Luckily I didn't have to use them but my friend who used them for some debt collection work said they were very effective.

You do have my sympathies the woman next door to my girlfriend has allowed a couple of scrotes to move in with her and they took great pleasure in bullying and intimidating her. Miraculously it stopped the moment I came back to stay and they saw me taking a baseball bat out the boot and into the house. They even called the Police claiming my girlfriend had attacked them one day, luckily my girlfriend had video'd them on her phone doing all the threatening and abusing.

Abduct one.

Kill it.

As a message to its peers, deposit remains in a public place where they are likely to find it.

If irritation persists, repeat until cured.

Although you gotta admit, it'd work).

This. Go down to a local gym (hardcore type) or boxing/mma - approach/befriend a key character or two, explain the situation and you may get some 'help' to dissuade them, even if it costs a drink or two - obviously not as payment but as part of the 'friendship'/ gratitude! Might cost nothing though if it triggers some social feeling, esp. given widowed old lady scenario.

Had experience of doing such a favour for a shop manager some years ago.

A police force that had acting as enforcers for ratepayers as a priority would be a fine thing...
