So are you saying that the quality of the leather and construction of the Cheaneys is no better than the Hoggs, and it is not worth paying a premium? For comparisons/recommendations of the shoes, I would strongly recommend you consider the advice from others above.
'Tis a strange place this shoe thread, where the carpet upon which the shoes rest in the photo will garner more comments (and often times more compliments) than the shoes themselves.

Hi, can anyone make some recommendations for brogue/semi-brogue in tan, budget £125ish. Thanks
Search TK Maxx for anything by Loake, Barker, Cheaney or possibly Tricker's. That would deliver the best bang for your budget IMO. Also try searching for sale items at Herring Shoes or Pediwear.
Just picked these Oliver Sweeney Chelsea Boots as they were half price at my favorite local gents outfitters shop!
Seem very nicely made, not had any Blake Stiched sole shoes before, I know there’s pros and cons, some say they are not as comfortable, but gave them a good try before buying and seem very comfortable indeed!

so I ended up buying some kiwi shoe polish, will put it on later. I couldn't decide whether to buy the regular one or the gloss variant. a quick search forums seemed to say that while the gloss is easier to get a shine out of, it's worse for your shoes and you're better off using the normal one. Hopefully this is true as I ended up getting the normal one.

Don't sweat it chum, it's only shoe polish, you'll be fine. Apply with cloth or soft brush, buff to a shine. Simples. CharlesdeGaulle said:

I have been interested in these because of the Horween Chromexcel leather, which is a classic "pull-up" leather. I'm hoping they will develop a nice rich patina over time. This video shoes how pull-up leathers respond to stretches and creases. I'm not sure how this particular shade will react to bending as there are no photos of used versions of this boot as they are a new model.

Carpet reappraisal? Like those I must say; what range/model?With regards to the carpet, I am the showroom manager, not powerfully built enough for directorship yet. Family firm not Carpetright. The carpet I’m standing on is about the same price per sqm as one of the shoes!
Will look into the shoe tree, do I just need an 8?
Also what care/maintenance do I need to be doing daily/weekly?
I've had my first few wears of the Cheaney Jarrow boots in Chicago tan Chromexcel leather.
I'll jot down some Initial impressions incase anyone is searching for reviews of this boot, as there is very little information out there...
The Chromexcel leather feels very different to the usual calf. It is thick yet supple and has a bit of a "memory" when bending. It doesn't seem to snap back to it's original position when bent like new calf leather does. I'm hoping this means they will nicely mould around my feet after a while.
The Chicago Tan colour is MUCH darker than shown on the Cheaney website. Out of the box (top pic), they look black. Buyers need to be aware as the Cheaney photos are very misleading IMO.
The photo below shows the boots after I gave them a couple of applications of Sahpir Renovateur. Lots(!) of dark colouring rubbed off into my cloth with light rubbing. They still look very dark, but at least I can see some of the dark brown and burgundy colouration appearing under strong light. I'm hoping that with time and regular brushing, a bit more of the dark top coat will rub off and reveal more of the rich colour underneath. I'm not seeing much of a pull-up colour change effect when flexing the leather, but i suspect this is due to the heavy top coat hiding it.
I'm not going to go easy on these. I think they will look great after a few battle scars.
In other shoe news, Mr Gaziano has just posted out my new hand-carved shoe trees!
