When was the last time you went on a bus?
Discussion
7 is he years ago when I was at college and hadn’t passed my test yet. Never since I’ve had a car. Hateful things, take 3 times longer than driving, normally have a hobo sit next to you or school kids winding you up. Also in my case a driver who wouldn’t go above 20mph and was far too friendly with kids.
For like a regular journey not like a city break tour bus, it was 12 years ago when DLR was not working one day before that maybe 8 or 9 years prioer as a student.
I have always hated the bus would rather walk, cycle get a taxi etc. When i lived with my parents given the bus came every 15 mins and was then 20mins into town you could always cycle faster or if you walked you would be most of the way there anyway and £1.50 (bag of chips) better off.
Buses are perhaps the worst form of transport and I think that's why people prefer cars over being told to use some stty cattle truck

Used a bus a couple of weeks ago after dropping the car off for MOT and service in the next town a few miles away. Not used one outside of London for a long while. It was, of course, absolutely fine. Turned up on time, didn’t cost much, was mostly empty (thanks to Coronavirus I suspect) and being on the top deck meant a slightly different view with more to see than normal. Should use them more often really!
Outside of London though, where I use them quite often as they are usually a really good option, no idea when I last used one. Several years I should think.

Going into the centre of London. the bus stopped in New Oxford Street, I was upstairs on the bus, front seat.
There was a good looking coffee place, Wild something. The bus started to move off, I pressed the bell, the bus driver kindly stopped the bus and I raced down the stairs and got off the bus. Waived and said thank you to the driver, he waived back.
Buses and their drivers aren't bad at all

I live in London and have a choice of tubes and overland trains nearby and usually use one of them.
For some specific journeys, though, a bus is better. Like when I go to see a QPR game. Number 52 down to Ladbroke Grove then a short hop on the tube. To answer the original question, just over a year ago
Thinking about it, when I lived near Ladbroke Grove I worked in Marble Arch and I would take a 7 or 15 every day. Door to door. they were old Routemasters too so I could hop on and off in heavy traffic.
Buses can be really handy.

Prior to covid, lots, once this is over then lots again.
It's as cheap as the car parking, and I don't have to worry about how much I drink before I come home.
Of course it helps it's a fast route that stops 100 feet from our house and is the "flagship" route so has WiFi and leather seats.

There is also the big pluses that you do not have to think about parking, especially with spaces becoming more narrow and my car being 2 doors and wide, you can also have a couple of drinks without fear of being stopped.
Don't be a d.ick like me and sit at the nearside front seat on the top deck, Bus pulls up at a T juction wanting to turn right and you say, 'Ok this way'

I dropped the Passat off at the main dealers for a service (bought the car in Jan 2020 and it's covered 1,100 miles!). Even for a diseasal car the oil is still a little golden. Anyway it's a 4 desk service setup and the service staff were being hassled for courtesy cars from customers who hadn't booked them citing the cold weather, covid, LBGT. ABC, 123, bum cheek boils etc. Me? Walked 2 mins to the main road, bus every 10 mins into town for a few squid.
Probably because I don't do it everyday, I perversely like being a bus wker and surveying the scenery as someone else drives.

For me it was February last year. I had a meeting to go to and rather than take my chance in the car park with narrow spaces, I decided to bus it. I caught the bus from the end of our street got dropped off in the town centre. After leaving the meeting I was fortunate enough to find the bus I needed at the stop, so no waiting.
Ironically I travel on them all the time, just never in the passenger seats (that honour was travelling to a colleague's funeral in July. I prefer the driver's seat, far more comfortable!
Also, couldn't hack the service buses. Hassle from the general public and abuse for just doing your job, no thanks!
