How do you manage to get such a high shine ?
With these I have so much shoe care stuff, my valet box is bursting. Most were given to me or won from competitions
To answer your question, try to use a minimal amount of wax and build up in layers. Eventually the wax will cover the pores of the leather and creates a nice smooth surface to work with. Some small drops of water in between each layer and would probably take about 20 - 30 layers to get to a mirror shine. Trick here is 'minimal' all the way through.

It’s a but quiet in here so I’ll take a risk and post the latest addition to my footwear fleet.
I just wanted some walking shoes, trainers I found a bit soft and boots a bit clunky. Something in between was required.
Mindful that I’ve no intention of walking Helvellyn I decided on these which will mostly be confined to the pavement or park.
Gelert. Dirt cheap, £21.99 and unusually available in stock (Sports Direct -shock horror) in size 14.
Very happy with them.
I await ridicule from the Merrill and Salomen brigade.

Size what? I don't think the boxes my shoes come in are size 14.I just wanted some walking shoes, trainers I found a bit soft and boots a bit clunky. Something in between was required.

A while back I was also lambasted on here for wanting some general purpose shoes. I just wanted some walking shoes, trainers I found a bit soft and boots a bit clunky. Something in between was required.

Fortunately not only waterproof and comfy but stylish too.
Never thought I was a boot person, but recently bought a cheap pair primarily for dog walking (two Yorkies around fields so not rugged or hiking) and loved them. Only problem was they leak so being returned - buy cheap, buy twice!
Really liked the look and feel of them though so have ordered some 'proper' mid-range boots which should do the job nicely. Really looking forward to receiving them, but coming from USA so may take a while.

Style is so subjective and deeply personal that really all we can talk about on this thread is about quality of the shoes, really.

yes obviously. I think those pointy shoes with narrow square really shiny fronts, are bloody awful, but that's just my opinion, isn't it?
No, it's mine as well. LG - I've always bought quite expensive waterproof hiking boots ( called approach shoes apparently) from Scarpa. Fully Gore-tex, grippy Vibram sole etc. They are c. £140 a pair, mega comfy and usually start leaking after about a year. This time I bought some cheapish Peter Storm walking shoes in full leather. After a spell in the Lakes they are still completely watertight, however I've had blisters. the insole moves about, and they are as roomy as wellies at the instep. In short - awful. So you may be right buy cheap buy twice, but in my experience all footwear leaks quite quickly and a dog walker's more quickly than most.
