And blistering flesh!

I had the Mamod Traction Engine. I'm not sure it was possible to get it going and not burn yourself. Great times.

Seeing the cassette players brought back memories. trying to hook them up to an amplifier via the earphone out connection
talking of which do you recall the earbud thing you got with a radio back in the 70s

I just googled cassette players on e bay and some of them i owned - brought back some memories

Also in the 80s I had an upmarket radio alarm clock that had a cassette in it actually this one.

I sold it to someone who wanted it and duly replaced it with this "newer" version which I actually thought was pretty cool looking. In fact I thought it was a simply stunning thing on my bedside cabinet.

I think that was Matchbox race 'n' chase or possibly powertrack.

My mate frequently recommended the ideal magazine about the motor in my TR7... 'The stationary engine.'

Playboy or Razzle in the 1980's.
I have two of those I picked up from a market a few years ago. Both in immaculate condition and still surprisingly good books. Really impressive, actually.

The final chapter is £sd of running a car, although it must have barely come out before decimalisation.

When I was at school, more pens the better.
iirc some sets had 50 pens and the challenge was to unleash your inner OCD and put them in the "right" order

Still got mine in a box in the shed 40 years on. A stationery engine, two traction engines, and a steam lorry. The stationery engine came on a Meccano base so you could build stuff to run from it, I built a generator to run some lights in my bedroom and a circular saw which was pretty dangerous for a teenager to mess about with. They ran pretty well after I discovered you could give the boiler a hand by filling with boiling water and use solid fuel blocks from a camping stove rather than the recommended meths.

We never had colour when I was at school.

I think it was introduced around 1962 or thereabouts.

I do remember my first experience with the colour purple.... cloud9

* Just to set the record straight, it should be "CDO".

Blotting paper still exists, but Roneos and carbon paper? And here are some of my common entrance papers from 1958

Teachers handing out notes on that peculiar blurry blue print on flimsy paper - was that the Roneo process? Newly printed copies had a distinctive solvent smell.
