The question is, who was the poster? Doubtless a baby reindeer sort, of which there are many on here

Not necessarily a poster, there are plenty that read the forum and never have a login.

I suspect the thread's gone, but the visitor was an active poster who was identified, outed and soundly admonished by BV

Soundly admonished lol. What with, a strongly worded email?

Well I wouldn't know; I'm just recounting what happened. BV was a gobste, IMO, but there's no shortage of those on PH, is there.

I quite liked BV. Wasn’t he QC or a Barrister? I enjoyed it when he was off in the Cayman Islands or somewhere far flung earning no doubt an inordinate amount of money working for oligarchs or some such. Liked old BL tat too.

Me too he once replied to a post I made with some absolutely excellent advice.

I would have thought Gnasher would have saved him.

Dennis The Menace was a Mod who was often found in the Biker Banter section.

I recall that breadvan72, much-missed of this parish, had a similar experience with a social-inadequate turning up unannounced and uninvited at his house to chat and see his cars.
IIRC he actually found them wandering around inside his barn looking at the cars without having announced themselves first!

Anyway, I'm reliably informed that P5BNij has been banned, and since it's well over 30 days since his last post, that appears to be permanent. Having read his posts on a few long-standing threads regularly, I really struggle to believe that he may have done anything malicious; innocent errors we're all capable of, but I can't think of anything he ever posted that wandered into perma-ban territory. Real shame, he was a font of knowledge on his chosen subjects.
Stone the crows. Everyday is a school day!

I mean who would actually be looking to see if their images were being used? It truly beggars belief.

This thread really does throw up the weird and wonderful.

And as for the stuff about BV - bonkers.

I’m sure Welshy must view this thread and shake his head.

I liked BV. He was extremely intelligent, highly knowledgeable, and very abrasive. His posts were a joy to read as he didn't suffer fools. I found much of what he posted quite amusing.

Granted, he could be a bit too abrasive at times...

He used to get narky when armchair experts got it wrong. Which I completely empathise, and agree with.

The internet’s absolutely full of instances where dunning Kruger armchair experts get upset by genuine experts.

Obviously it’s even more upsetting for these people when the genuine experts are a bit harsh about it.

When these genuine experts like BV get fed up and stop posting, we’re unfortunately just left with the internet facts (BS mainly) of the armchair experts and although it might be less confrontational, it all ends up far less interesting or useful.

There are dedicated forums for specialist advice. If I want legal advice I'll go to Legal Beagles rather than have to sort out the wheat from the chaff here or on Money Saving Expert. Better still, I'll go and see a solicitor for free advice. It's pointless arguing here because someone on their tea break from flipping burgers will happily argue with a barrister or CEO.

He also used to get narky for no reason at all. I remember him criticising someone's charity fundrasing work which was completely unwarranted. The guy in question is well known in some car groups and is an absolute gent in real life.

IIRC, he didn't just "stop posting".
