I was awoken at 1:30am this morning with house alarms going off. A quick check of my alarm clock confirmed there had been a power cut. This mornings nugget of information "power cut anyone???" followed by 43 replies of "yes", "us too", ours was off on..." FFS.

Must have been the night for it, exactly the same on my local group but three separate posts:

1. Power Cut - anyone else? lots of "me too".

2. Traffic lights out at junction of X - lots of "there was a power cut" posts

3. One of my neighbours complaining that they were trying to fix the power issue, some way from our houses, at 3am and it woke her up.

On point 3 it's an interesting one, the neighbour in question is part of a trio of incredibly antisocial neighbours that surround our house. Her particular skill set for annoyances include:

  • Used to have a TV attached to the fence in the garden and broadcast sporting events to the neighbourhood constantly (that stopped when the husband left her though so was most likely all on him)
  • Has a dog that barks constantly
  • Has two cats that are locked out of the house and cry from about 5am each morning to come in
  • Frequently has late night parties with loud music and singing, all profanity-laden, into the early hours of the morning
  • Plays music riddled with swearing during the day, at volume, despite there being young kids nearby
  • Totally flouted all the lockdown guidance and had people round
  • Hired a sex pond and has her drunken boyfriend in it, he seems to like standing up and dropping his pants
  • Two kids, one that sings out of her window with loud music playing, the other seems to be on the spectrum and shouts a lot and throws things out of the window
  • Allows one of the kids, who I believe is about 15, to smoke weed and drink, she also has a boyfriend that's about 20 so presumably he's a paedo.

But yeah, those essential repairs at 3am were a real inconvenience you stupid witch.

I'm only typing all of this here because I can't put this response on there as it'll be obvious it's me complaining, thanks for the therapy session even if I didn't ask first.

The other 3834 posts in the last 24 hours have obviously just been people asking if anyone is selling face masks.

Complaint to council. (Not ‘fuming’ though!):

I am seething with anger on yet another service which was free, I now have to pay for.
Wanted to get our old fridge collected, however, will not be paying £35.00 for something which should remain free.
Have you seen how many people are fly-tipping!? no wonder its on the increase. Has anyone in the council ....

Etc

Ditch the app and use a browser pointing to https://www.facebook.com/?sk=h_chr - makes things a lot more chronological and you don't get some random post you read, but didn't interact with, nearly a year ago popping up in your feed every time you refresh it.

It's not as refined when it comes to the interface of course but it makes things a lot more sensible.

Is this a post about what someone put or a question? hehe

This works in Browsers for groups. I bookmark the groups I use.

If you're the family with 5 dogs, 5 kids, a tiny garden that now is even smaller due to a large self-build shanty hut and a keen interest in letting all the rubbish from your overflowing bins blow into my garden then yes, howdy neighbour wink

On a similar note, there was an unauthorised rave at the weekend about 8-9 miles from where I live. The local FB group was apoplectic about the event whereby the music started at 11pm, the first complaint to the police was 20 minutes later but there were still 3,000 people bopping away at 7am the following morning. Posts fell into the following categories.

Q: Why can't the police go in & close it down, pull out the plug?
A: They use generators and around 25 police went in to tackle 3,000 people. That would have ended well

Q: There are hundreds of cars causing an obstruction by the side of the main road nearby. All their tyres should be let down or their cars towed away.
A: Let the tyres down, they'll be there longer. Towed away? Good luck in finding a hundred spare tow trucks in the area and where do you tow them too?

Q: I can hear the music now in (Village A).
Q: Me too, loud and clear in (Village C).
Q: I'm in (Village B, inbetween A and C) and not a murmur. You sure?

Went on all day, the music and the pointless posts.

My late Father In Law used to tell my daughter when she was little that the power couldn't be off because the lights were on the cars. Imagine my amazement when this 22 year old, pretty clever, adult daughter called me the other week to tell me her partner had laughed at her for telling him that in all seriousness.

Also get the frequent posts of folk bemoaning the fact that the town council hasn't 'chosen' shops they like for the high street.
There seems to be some belief that the shops that exist do so at the request of the council and not because they're simply the ones willing to pay the rents to the various private landlords.
