Ambulance... Ambiwlans - Has dumbing down gone too far?
Discussion
/ressurect
I'm beyond trying to justify (as I will (and have) put my hand up to stupidity and also of not using google to check first) and I agree with root_666 - I will question, however, how a minibus with the words Ambulance down the side is actually an classed as an ambulance? Surely it should be classed as a patient transport vehicle and therefore should be labelled up as such - or just left blank? Is there any criteria that has to be met for it to be classed as an ambulance?
NB - I wonder if there will be further regionalisation of emergence vehicles - "Rozzers" anywhere anyone?

Most patient transport is called an ambulance. Locally we have a volunteer scheme where people drive OAP's to hospital/doctors appointments, these are called ambulance cars, but are unmarked apart from a sign they put up in the windscreen.

Also they have a driving licence as well.
Yes, they do have training and qualify as "Care Assistants", and they have similar basic driver training to proper ambulance crews - omitting the response driver training.
Yes, PTS vehicles are still classified as ambulances, because by definition an "ambulance" is a vehicle used for the transport of sick or injured persons, and to the disgust of many - as a taxi for pissed up people on friday/saturday nights.

The Germans have the best term for an ambulance though - Krankenwagen I believe.
True - literal translation is sick-wagon.Sick sister (Krankenschwester) is nurse.
Sick house (Krankenhaus) is hospital.
Milk house (Milchhaus) is dairy.
Rat house (Rathaus) is Town Hall, oddly enough ;->
Breast warts (Brustwarten) are nipples.
Hand shoes (Handschuhen) are gloves.
Tooth doctor (Zahnarzt) is dentist.
It would appear that where English tends to have a word
for it, the Germans make something up from words lying around.
I only learned last week that
Sequins week (Flitterwoche) is honeymoon.
