Nope, they don't suck, there is a ball at the end stopping the flow of water, the hamster/gerbil/rabbit etc push the ball up with their tongue, thus creating a brief flow of water that they can then drink.

was just thinking though...dogs /cats and all such all suckle from the mother when young , just wondered why if you offered a dog a straw in some water would it know what to do , they must be able to suck but then they dont have lips like humans /apes

The answer to your question is surely because the Russians contributed as much to spaceflight as the Americas did. More so, if you include the fact that Soyuz has outlived the Shuttle.

And that's fair enough, but I find it hard to believe that the English speaking world would acquiesce to the Russians over language. One could argue that the pioneers of seafaring weren't English speakers, but to argue is the last thijg I want to do in replying to one of your posts.

I know you wear the 'tt' thing as a badge of honour, but much water has passed, and many names been bandied since then. By all means, continue to wear the hat if you wish, but I'm not one to bear grudges.

It arose because I have a colleague called Stephen. He's very particular about the 'PH', because he says Steven with a 'V' is "common".

But he signs his emails 'Steve'.
