Camera is for berks and Walting is for berks so it'll be interesting to see the overlap

Camera???

I hope that's an errant auto-correct, and that you meant *CAMWABS - sorry, CAMRA wink

I'm off to a potential Walt hangout tomorrow - the Reading Beer Festival.

Much opportunity for hi-vis, radios, clipboards, perimeter fencing, beer guts, cowboy hats and clothes solely bought at other beer festivals or museum gift shops.

I shall return next week and give you a run down if I spot any actual Walting, as opposed to just helpful volunteering.
You forgot sci-fi movie t-shirts from your list of Waltwear.

I see what you did there wink

I've been attending Reading Beer fest on and off since I was at uni, the place has definitely got a huge amount of walt-ability to it certainly. They have many of the necessary hallmarks that make it a Walt hangout as well.

- Special cordoned off areas only for CAMRA members
- megaphones
- Places to buy more beer festival clothing
- Indeterminate hierarchy

I think the odd marshall have some Walt tendencies:

(Yes I know they give up their free time, work hard, save our lives, make motorsport safe and accessible for all. I love them).

Auto correct yes! I wasn't paying attention. CAMRA is what I meant

I try to get that one in whenever I can!

When I was at uni I worked in a pub part time. I remember one CAMRA bloke lecturing me for ages about various beers after he asked what beer I recommended and I said I'd only tried the lager. He was very unimpressed by my lack of taste in beer

Yet I'm a 25 year army veteran. I have first aid training to Team Medic standard. I've run a guard shift, so know all about Confirm/Clear/Cordon/Control, and I've collected body parts for burial. Yet, because I've been retired from the army, I now consider myself to be quite firmly in the "ordinary member of the public" camp.

Yet again it's the hierarchical pseudo-official gibberish that puts me off volunteering. By all means check that I'm properly equipped for the conditions and the task at hand (mostly to ensure I don't make a situation worse). But how much harder can it be to wander about searching for a missing person than being sent out to search for booby-trapped armoured vehicles in a hostile environment? I coped OK with that, so I'm confident I can be of use looking for Doris in the local country park...

...aaaahm oot !

You aren't going to win here unless you grudgingly accept that despite everything you have posted, you are inferior to "Clipboard Clive and the Landy Lads".

Who are probably the offical Walt Band.
To be fair to Lopey , it does sound like he's actually mountain rescue not a 4x4 walt squad.

It would be good if he could clarify.

True enough. Poor quoting on my part with no offence intended towards Lopey, and full humour directed at The Walts.

I think he's lowland rescue. So sort of like mountain rescue, but with less need for skills / bravery. Certainly no work for the general public, who aren't trained to secure a crime scene if they found a dead body. Seen "weekend at bernies"? That's what happens when you let every tom, dick and harry look for missing old people.

An excellent choice as they do stock a good range of both and jolly good value too

I was a volunteer fire-fighter when I lived out in the sticks. Does that count as walting?

Only if you dropped broad hints about being ex-SAS, dressed in fire-fighting gear at all times, called your family 'ordinary members of the public' and talked in fire-fighter speak when out and about.

Did you...?

I used to be a Special Constable, had a radio, uniform, and even drove about in a car with lights and fancy stickers.
Got to boss people about, so maybe I was a Walt smile

No. Just put out fires, mostly. I knew I was doing something wrong.

We did get to close off the main road for the Anzac day dawn service, so I got a minor power trip.
