Friday's forecast stays broadly similar - the trough has moved slightly west, and is now modeled as a convergence zone (heavier rain, possible thunder).

Following that - looks like a north/south split is favoured. Lows affecting the north and west, more influence from high pressure to the south east.

Don't know if it's related, but we have no phone signal. Trees have certainly fallen on the railways according to SWT.

Gusty, periodic very heavy rain. Looks like the southern side of the inner band is about to hit us...

Just looked at the animation again and that heavy band of rotating showers look like they are going to sail over Reading and drop their guts.
Currently it's on us...

Someone was asking about Friday... Still no change to what was previously forecast. Slack pressure, a convergence zone down the centre of northern UK.

Looking forward, not brilliant news for staycationers and those in Northern France!

Looking forward stays the same - high pressure to the north of Atlantic, high pressure in central Atlantic = UK bullseye for lows.

This will please colin...

This map shows the total rainfall over the next 10 days. As mentioned before, a real NW/SE split.

I'm off to France on Weds night - very patchy internet. Enjoy August eek

As I pack the car and check the tyres I have only an inkling of good news to give you. The outlook is frankly dire, Greenland high - so often the desire in winter - is dominating weather and forcing low pressure on to the UK. Friday is looking disgusting for all, but generally the outlook is better for SE and worst for NW.

There may just be light starting to appear at the end of the tunnel, but nothing of note.

Sorry Colin - but from your point of view it cannot be the best ever summer, as the hottest ever temp was recorded. Discuss biggrin

Boardmasters in Cornwall just got cancelled due to expected severe weather this weekend.

I know a number of people booked to work the event so they have laid out for camping, guests houses, travel etc all for nothing.

There will be a number of very pissed off people if the bad weather doesn’t materialise.
Unseasonably deep low pressure system will hit - for sure. The effects may vary, of course.

What do you think Brands Hatch on Sunday will be like?
The bad weather will have cleared, but the next batch will be en-route. So a cool, mostly cloudy, day is most likely.

3rd small storm of the day hitting us in France. At least it's 25 degrees in between.

Not beach weather though frown

We are 3 hours from the sea. But the village has a lake with proper sandy beach, life guards and even a water slide.

As residents we get free access smile

Much nicer in France today. Colin, I used to have a gold card, now merely silver. Far less travel.

Liam Dutton has suggested that a typhoon moving over Japan and east Russia might cause the jet stream to temporarily shift north of the UK, bringing high pressure and a return of summer for the end of August.
Or it might not.
Signs of a definite improvement towards the BH weekend. We arrived in France to 30 degree heat for our travel day and it looks like we'll return just as it comes back. Weather hasn't been bad like in the UK, but not good enough for the beach. 26 tomorrow, for our son's birthday, so a one day warm up!

Weather forecast for France/Belgium for Friday. Puggit and family will be driving home on Thursday after a cool and sometimes extremely wet holiday. Make your own conclusions irked
