There's nothing wrong with that being the main focus, indeed that's pretty much what I said.

The fact is though there a lot of car enthusiasts here who don't have performance cars, yet who love cars and driving, and there's no excuse for them being treated with contempt, which happens more often than it should.
All I've seen you do is moan like a child about the way people speak to you about your car. Man up.

I can't stand the lefties of PH who take offence to absolutely everything. Oh boo hoo, someone doesn't like your 20 year old Saab.
Your reply sums up my post quite nicely, cheers. I'm not saying man up in response to him being upset that his parents got murdered, I'm saying it in response to him, on several occasions, being upset over someone not liking his choice in car. I drive a '4 pot turbo' 'VAG' product, which gets about as much hate as anything on this forum. Couldn't give a st though, I'm going to enjoy my blacked out Golf and you can enjoy your car!!

The use of adverbs that belittle someone's objection to an opinion presented as fact.

For example, 'I was merely pointing out that you're ......(some kind of tt for thinking I'm wrong)' done in an obnoxious way. The 'merely' isnt needed, and it's intent is rather than acknowledging that someone else has a different and valid opinion, makes it out to be a small problem that they shouldnt get upset about. It's insensitive at best

It always seems to be on here, and I think it's most used (to use someone else's phrase) by middle aged wkers acting all pretentious and clever

What pisses me off most about PH is when one person decides to take over a discussion thread by steamrollering everyone else into submission.

They will write out huge long subdivided posts in which they will make spurious claims as if they're the word of God himself. They will pompously accuse everyone else of using strawman and ad hominem arguments. They will make it impossible to have a reasonable discussion through their tedious posting style and possibly most annoying of all they'll use the sniggering smiley which is the badge of the most arrogant of know-it-all prats.

People who, instead of arguing, use terms they've looked up on the internet to describe styles of argument or tactics adopted by others, as a way of trying to discredit the argument of the other person without actually addressing it. These people habitually complain about others playing the man, not the ball.

Example: post this: " seven fallacies of thought and reason" when you don't want to defend having posted "evidence" to support your position that is sourced from credibility-challenged sources.

It's the whole wanting to be recognised as being "in with the crowd" thing for me. Apparently this is considered much more important than being original.

This involves continually regurtitating a comment or idea, mostly not funny, which comment/idea having been continually regurgitated by others ad infinitum, soothing and comforting that person into feeling that they are like the others in the same group.

"Bob the Boulder" and "Dave and his light on a stick" come to mind. There are too many others to list.

A common excuse for said awful plebby unoriginality is that it's "just harmless fun".

So true, they're definitely the most detrimental members of PH.

You know exactly the ones that are going to do it depending on what forum you're in. I find myself just skimming by all their long winded replies, I just can't be bothered wasting my time reading the same regurgitated crap from them.

Unfortunately though they do tend to destroy the thread, no one can be bothered with the time and energy involved in engaging with them.

Which doesn't change the sentiment of what rohr said, and which I agree with.

'You are entitled to your own opinion', in any context usually means that argument reason and logic have run out of steam and are the only words left to use.

On a typical PH thread disagreement recently I was told to 'Grow a pear'.

I thought that this comment belonged on the gardening thread.

It's point 1 from the 7 point article Zod linked to earlier. biggrin

People are entitled to their own opinion, but they are not entitled to their own facts.

The facts don't give a fk what anyone thinks.

Correct, but I would argue that my one sentence sums up, more or less, a very wordy example.
