I'm keeping an eye on the long term forecast as we are going for a trip up to the Inner Hebrides next week. So far the pressure chart has high pressure centred over Skye for most of next week but the weather apps are showing it as dry but cloudy.
Scotland definitely a good pic - centre of the high is much closer. Been in the mid-high 20s today.Iceland broke their all time record today, and likely to go further and reach 30 for first time in history too.
Weird weather - the high pressure location is very uncommon.

Apart from being dry, this forecast is really poor for summer. Temperatures struggling to get to 20C day after day.Hopefully west coast of Wales will be cracking next week as the air has traveled across the UK and might break up or be warmer.

I'm off to the Isle of Skye week commencing 13th September. How's it looking?
Should have gone this week...Impossible to tell, but this high will be stubborn and is penciled in to run a long way in to September. It's hurricane season, so there could be far reaching unknowns at short notice. Of course, ex-hurricances can and do boomerang off the US East Coast and often pass between Scotland and Iceland.
Sat in the car at M4 jc 12, West Wales bound - warmest and sunniest parts locally.
Still no end in sight to this pattern, maybe some improvement due to a shift in position, maybe low pressure gently nudging the high away. Nothing concrete.
Cool, cloudier the closer to the North Sea, dry.

A few weeks ago the Met Office reported summer 2021 as being "warmer & drier than average".
Is that still the case?
It was a warm summer, believe it or not. Even though the south never really got going, it's been a better than average summer up north. Warm nights in the south caused by the blankets of cloud kept the average up as well. Is that still the case?
Looking ahead - the high moves up in to Scandinavia - so winds in the south will come from the continent. Warmer weekend coming up and potential for a standard 'back to school' hotter than should be Sept.

I think Dog Star is in the tiny light blue bit right in the centre of the UK
As you can see, the south has been dim, not warm, and much wetter than average. GetCarterland in the NW of Scotland has been the prime spot.

Any positive signals for the second half of September?
I was planning a trip to Snowdonia at some point, I was going to wait and book for the best weather of the month, it'll be a bit disappointing if next week is the best we are going to get though.
Most likely to be autumnal as we move further in. As always, it's hurricane season and things can change quickly (for good and bad - but it's hard to forecast accurately in to the distance at this time of year).I was planning a trip to Snowdonia at some point, I was going to wait and book for the best weather of the month, it'll be a bit disappointing if next week is the best we are going to get though.
So the downturn to more autumnal weather is being pushed back. The models are really struggling with hurricane Larry which is a major storm in the center of the Atlantic. Due to move towards Bermuda before bouncing off and heading NE. Doesn't look to impact the UK, but is impacting our future (as I warned before, Sept forecasts are trickier when there's a hurricane about).
So after a potentially thundery breakdown of the real heat on Thurs/Fri, we're left in between high and low - a period of nothing weather. Neither hot nor cold, not windy, not very wet at all.

I know this far out it’s far from nailed on, but Netweather suggesting some pretty serious rain for Friday afternoon. 19mm of rain sounds a lot? Do I need to start building an Ark?
Thundery downpours - so you might well miss them. I suspect the computer had you in the middle of a downpour on the map at the time of the forecast. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
