Many charts show mouth-watering cold developing for the following week. Plenty of caution, as not all charts are on board, and it's more than a week out.

Lots of flip flopping, but generally the charts are improving.

No one is saying a true taste of winter is coming, plan remains the same. Cool weather arriving within 1-2 days. Possible cold follows next week.

Wet snow for the last 30 mins in Medstead, Hampshire. We're pretty high here. No chance of settling though.

According to Auntie Beeb’s weather forecast you have sleet showers right into the night.

I am pretty much due south of you right on the coast, so sea level plus about 6 feet at the most. Nothing here but a little rain and of course a bit nippy.

In terms of proper cold - we're still in a holding pattern. Mouth watering charts persist, but no agreement in terms of direction. 50/50 for something exciting, but we could easily lose the cold and get an Atlantic train starting.

A bit of sleet, on the higher ground above Halifax, earlier but now just raining.

Reports of snow on the A57 between Manchester and Sheffield.

Edit for pic.

Grim down here. 4 degrees and raining. I felt really bad about not going for a cycle this afternoon when I collected the kids from football practice. hehe

So, we need to start concentrating on the first half of next week. A large area of low pressure in the Atlantic is edging east towards UK. This is not a standard storm situation where low pressure flies by on the jet stream. The high pressure and colder air remains to our east.

There is a chance of a classic battle ground scenario, where the low bumps into the high pressure and lucky areas get dumped on. Due to the time of year, current chart positions and sods law - high up northern areas are most likely... Plus it's quite far out, and could all change. Watchful eye time.

Looks like we might get a dusting if snow tonight in blackwood south wales might be very hit and miss though looking at the forecast. I do hope we don't get what we had earlier in the year having 9ft snow drifts in certain areas is not fun.
