Is it generally cold everywhere in the UK atm, or just here in the North?
I'm in W Yorks and the metoffice site said it was 12C at 9am when I walked the mile into town and back. I was only in a shirt and was wiping the beads of sweat off my fat bald head so it's definitely not "cold" out. A couple of people who I passed coming the other way were complaining it was cold. Dunno what's wrong with them!gazapc said:
The forecast from the met office and BBC seems to have been well off recently.
Loads more rain than expected, rain at different times, some supposedly cloudy days sunny etc...
Is there something driving this forecast uncertainty?
Yeah, I check 3 different forecasts pretty much all day and they're all so off! Loads more rain than expected, rain at different times, some supposedly cloudy days sunny etc...

To me it makes no sense, as it is possible to be very accurate. When I climbed Everest 4 years ago, obviously getting a good weather window could be the difference between life and death, so the forecasts we were getting we incredibly accurate, with wind speeds, cloud cover etc almost spot on.
Yet my weather apps in Surrey can't even tell you it's raining outside when it actually is!

There is little, if any human input into most of the forecasts from the weather apps hence you get a general forecast rather than anything specific. To me it makes no sense, as it is possible to be very accurate. When a human has to present a forecast you get a knowledgeable sanity check on what is displayed. For this reason I use the MetOffice channel on YouTube as this to me is most accurate.

Yeah good point, I do feel much more trusting in the BBC forecast at the end of the News at 630.
Your trust is misplaced. The BBC use the previous edition of which ever weather model they use. So it's between 12-24 hours out of date. BBC forecasting has been mediocre since they ditched the Met Office. Puggit said:
