There will be no heating on here. Upper lips will be stiffened, woolly pullies will be donned.
Well I certainly refuse to have heating on for June July August no matter WHAT weather comes our way!

I'm trying for 1st April to 31st October this year.

Glad I got the lawns mowed this morning before green bins tomorrow. Now to take the dog out into the monsoon. Big boots and Aussie bush hat back out from storage.

Fylde.

Nice game of bowls today between showers.

The Green was waterlogged initially but dried out nicely so play could commence.

Shorts and T shirt for a short time so not all doom and gloom.

Is it generally cold everywhere in the UK atm, or just here in the North?
I'm in W Yorks and the metoffice site said it was 12C at 9am when I walked the mile into town and back. I was only in a shirt and was wiping the beads of sweat off my fat bald head so it's definitely not "cold" out. A couple of people who I passed coming the other way were complaining it was cold. Dunno what's wrong with them!
See, it is cold everywhere!

I'm off to the Derby on Saturday so have been watching the models.

The variability is off the scale - 23 deg and sunny changes to 11 deg and solid rain from model run to model run.

Crazy times!

The forecast from the met office and BBC seems to have been well off recently.

Loads more rain than expected, rain at different times, some supposedly cloudy days sunny etc...

Is there something driving this forecast uncertainty?

Yeah, I check 3 different forecasts pretty much all day and they're all so off!

To me it makes no sense, as it is possible to be very accurate. When I climbed Everest 4 years ago, obviously getting a good weather window could be the difference between life and death, so the forecasts we were getting we incredibly accurate, with wind speeds, cloud cover etc almost spot on.

Yet my weather apps in Surrey can't even tell you it's raining outside when it actually is!

There is little, if any human input into most of the forecasts from the weather apps hence you get a general forecast rather than anything specific.

When a human has to present a forecast you get a knowledgeable sanity check on what is displayed. For this reason I use the MetOffice channel on YouTube as this to me is most accurate.

Yeah good point, I do feel much more trusting in the BBC forecast at the end of the News at 630.

If you do want to use the met office website them just read the text (written by a human) and ignore the icons and graphics generated automatically.

Your trust is misplaced. The BBC use the previous edition of which ever weather model they use. So it's between 12-24 hours out of date. BBC forecasting has been mediocre since they ditched the Met Office.

A very lively looking rain radar and lightning tracker.

Bloody annoying day in Surrey. At one point I was working outside in the sun in shorts, now watching the rain fall and considering a jumper inside!

We've had spells of torrential rain in Burnley, East Lancs. Topped off with super torrential rain and hailstones. Now the sun is shining!

I've so far been pleasantly surprised that I haven't had to dash outside and bring the washing in. It was a lovely, bright start tot the day in Leeds but it's been pretty dull since 11.
