Ok, i have donned my fireproof suit, helmet and ovenmitts, i don't think he deserved the knighthood and i think if it hadn't been for his media we family nobody would have known a thing about the man.
Hmmm....i don't see it being down to his family to a degree, they might have given him the initial push but the local bbc news programme were sucking up to him every day canonising him before he'd even raised his first million for charity.

Did he deserve a Knighthood? That's debateable but if he deserves one, then what about the old lady who could barely walk but was using her stairs to climb the equivalent of Ben Nevis?
tumbleweed
Or the littleboy who couldn't walk and was using a walker to drag himself round his local park?
tumbleweed

The media have an awful lot to answer for with the way Tom Moore is being portrayed, yes he did raise an awful lot of money for charity and he deserves respect for that but the way they have portrayed him, i find it hard to believe he wont be a shoe in for a sainthood before this year is out.
But that's neither him or his family's doing.
However Bobbers, i respect your right to say what you think on the subject. smile

Good grief no!!!! Saint Glen of deRobbo is an absolute must!!!! However it's up to our resident deity to arrange for the beheading canonization!!!

Slopes I think the issue comes from the sheer amount of air time dedicated to him, coupled with the fact that while he did raise an amazing amount for charity he is still just a man, what he did as you so rightly pointed out has also been done by a few others.

Not disagreeing with you Bobbers and we got bombarded with his exploits, living less than 40 miles away as he did, on a daily basis by the local media and then the national news.

For me, the phrase Superhero or Hero is a bit much, what about the carers going into work every single day, or the nurses fighting Covid on the front line? What about the ambulance staff waiting up to 7hrs with a highly infectious Covid patient in their ambulance because A& E is swamped, or supermarket workers having to work round customers refusing to wear masks potentially infecting them?
But oh hey, a Superhero is someone who raises money for charity not anybody else apparently.

As i said, it's not solely down to him, the media has to take the blame for the way he has been portrayed and his family for the ill judged trip to the Bahamas whilst Bedfordshire was in Tier 3 but lets be fair, if someone offered you a chance to go to a sunshine paradise at that age, who would say no?
Again, the media have to bear the brunt of the blame for the way it was portrayed.

I know you don't have too much time, but I can recommend Anthony Beevor's "Stalingrad". It's a big book but well worth the effort. Take it on holiday, it won't keep away the mosquitoes but will deter the beach/pool bores.

ION: I had two Zoom meetings today, totaling 3 hours. I'm now on my third absinthe, to aid recovery from zoomonia.

I find dark sunglasses and pretending to be asleep do that quite nicely and if they catch me awake, a heavy sigh works equally well hehe

It's strange, I'm normally a friendly type, but on holiday I'm not interested in speaking to other holidaymakers, unlike Mrs WS who has a need to make full use of her 20,000 words per day.

An amazing book that, couldn’t put it down.

Different world then where recapturing a ruined tractor factory was worth two months and 1,000 lives, then losing it and doing exactly the same a week later.

yikes

nono Please don't do that to me!
I've never been fired in my life, and I'm too old for it now.
Besides, I'm not the right calibre any more.

Instead of cannonisation, can't I just be a peer of the realm?
I'm good at that; sometimes I get up to pee three times in the night.

Sometimes I don't. frown

Anyway, it's getting late, so I'm off to beddy-byes. Kylie and Teddy are waiting...
Nite nite chaps. wavey

Good morning everyone.

It's not raining!

Sir Tom has my respect for all the money that was raised and as an elderly person. But that's it.
I turned over the channel whenever anything about him and it was on. Pure media bile.
Those newscasters and reporters etc must wonder why they bothered to be a journalist I imagine with all that rubbish they have to spout.
Embarrassing at best.

If it's a nice day today then I may walk and never return.

If you see Glenners tell him to get his arse home. Sunderland needs putting back in the pond.

This is a current photo.

Agreed, Agent M and Station F are integral to the smooth running of TUSRTAYL and it really wouldn't be the same place without our French correspondent around.
