You're complaining as a white male (I'm presuming you are a white male) that BME students who don't get into certain universities just aren't smart enough. But as a white male you've undoubtedly been given better access to education, support and societal benefits than a BME student. The odds are stacked against them in many many avenues of their lives, whilst working in your favour throughout life.
You are in a position of privilege and making the common misconception that it is a level playing field, when it is not. It is difficult to argue for meritocracy as a benefit to society when society is so unequal.
With no corrective measures in place, like giving BME students a helping hand, access to higher education and higher parts of society will continue to be run by white males who will promote and hire other white males whilst blaming BME for just not being smart enough.
In other words saying white straight working uk males are persecuted, is like a lottery winner complaining they have to pay income tax. Life might be a little bit hard, but it's a lot harder for those that didn't win the race/gene lottery.
Surely traveller men must enjoy/endure this "white male privilege" too? You are in a position of privilege and making the common misconception that it is a level playing field, when it is not. It is difficult to argue for meritocracy as a benefit to society when society is so unequal.

I watched an old Tom and Jerry cartoon the other day, A scene where a black lady was up on a stool screaming because of the mouse, Jerry. I couldn't help thinking that it wouldn't be allowed today. But why? Once the political correctness bit, that's been hammered into all of us subsides; and you analyse it. There isn't anything wrong with it.
What? Wouldn't be allowed today? But you were ACTUALLY WATCHING IT hence it IS allowed today. Unless you are going to pretend you were watching it in some kind of underground back street illegal cinema for old racist cat 'n' mouse cartoons?Greshamst said:

Your argument is flawed. If only because plenty of people from some 'minority ethnic' groups get into top universities, companies and professions with high levels of representation. But apparently because you think your chosen group doesn't you're happy to trot out the weak and grossly racist meme of 'white privilege'.You are in a position of privilege and making the common misconception that it is a level playing field, when it is not. It is difficult to argue for meritocracy as a benefit to society when society is so unequal.

It's not like the argument even holds up when you look nationally. Being BME seems to be much less of a problem in the counties than it does when your vision is narrowed down to stty bits of London or wherever.
People should be embarrassed to trot this crap out.
I really should stop poking the professionally offended and helping them derail the thread.

As a white, straight, working class UK male, I can say I've never felt persecuted. I'm going to try being a brown, homosexual, middle class woman all weekend and will report back with my findings on Monday.

I'm beginning to think that "straight white males" are now a persecuted section of society.
Everybody seems to think they are to blame for everything.
Been this way for 20 years in my opinion.Everybody seems to think they are to blame for everything.
