Love Propstore but it's a dangerous place. Him indoors has a small Fett obsession and one of the most memorable scenes for him from his childhood was the cloud city dinner.
We were at an even some years ago and Propstore were there, was amazed to find a call sheet for that scene so bought it for him. Had a few other call sheet/artwork bits from them over the years.

Off to Disney for the first time this year next week, managed to squirrel away a nice little sum to spend, so expect me to turn into a human whirlwind in the Phantom Manor store biggrin

That's very cool, I'd love something like that related to something I'm into. Doesn't need to be a whole script but just something small.

I have a decent phone connected to Sony WF-1000XM4 together with a subscription to Amazon Music HD (lossless) and I have no complaints about the sound quality, to my ears it sounds great. I also have Plex, with a load of FLAC files, which also provides excellent sound quality. But for some reason I needed more, so I decided to revisit something from my youth which I remember having superb sound quality. I wanted to see whether there was an element of rose tinted glasses, but I am not disappointed, burning the FLACS onto MD together with some decent wired headphones, has resulted in superb sound quality plus there's something special about physical media.

Obviously 1 MD unit wasn't enough, so I now have 3, 2 for NetMD and 1 just as a player, although I mostly use the MZ-N710 which seems to suit my listening preferences the best and was the exact unit I had when it was released in 2002/2003.

I fully invested into the Minidisc infrastructure only for MP3s to arrive about six months after doing so. Actually sold the Minidisc separate player a few years ago, cannot remember what happened to the top of the range Sony portable Minidisc player (it was a thing of engineering beauty).

MP3s killed off any physical audio media, but these MD units of the time seem to produce sound quality you don't get with MP3 portable players (or phones), apparently Sony used high quality DACs in the units hence the brilliant sound.

Some of the rarer units fetch crazy money, some on ebay for 1k+, Hi-MD units also seem big money, £20 just for a disc, 200 quid for a player/recorder.

I remember selling my old units for a pretty penny about ten years ago, certainly more than I paid for them back in the day. What I loved about my last car (BMW 3 Series Touring) was that as a Japanese import car it featured a BMW stamped minidisc player. My brother still knocks about it in now.

My first car (second hand) came with an aftermarket MD player fitted. I remember having to borrow a guy from work's MD player to take home and record some tunes onto MD, ended up giving them all away with the car when I sold it I think as I had nothing else that used them.

Found memories of them though, they certainly had an edge for portable music as they didn't skip (anti-skip tech wasn't great at the time)

Minidisc was utterly brilliant...

Adored mine, replaced a Gucci Sony anniversary chromed Walkman (which I also loved), and basically spent my life listening to it for a few years until actually a fair amount after they became 'obsolete'.

Should have had a life as a computer storage option, I remember having to spend £25 per Zipp disc for uni work, which were rubbish in comparison!

A clear sphere ice maker.

Saffron - for inside the ice.

Large half pound crystal glasses that you freeze.

Dried orange slices.

Bourbon

Orange and standard bitters.

Liquid smoke.

I'm on a quest to make the perfect Old Fashioned.

Need some edible flowers for the centre of the ice spheres next.

I love an old fashioned...

Instead of liquid smoke, I'd look to replicate what I've had a lot in the US - a smouldering wood chip placed on a piece of rock next to the glass, then a dome placed over to infuse.

What bourbon are you going with? Michter's Small Batch works for me.

It's only a cheap one (Bulleit Bourbon from Amazon, but we'll reviewed) as I wanted to practice with some different ingredients more suited to cooking too. e.g Miso being one. I also want to try it with a home made brown sugar and vanilla based syrup.

My local brewery has a 'mixologist' who rents the top floor and does amazing cocktails... He does a spiced pumpkin old fashioned which is lovely. Never thought that would work, but it does... Hence wanting to have a play with some very subtle additions.

Good tip re the wood chip. I saw something similar done on the Netflix cocktail show but your suggestion removes the need for a proper smoker. I have some smoker wood chips for my bbq so will give it a go.

Thanks for the tip. I'll also try the Bourbon too.

I love an old-fashioned, watching Mad Men got me into them! Very simple cocktail but endless possibilities.

Doesn’t read like it! hehe

Focus on the basics. Decent bourbon, bitters & method. Smoking at a push but using a smoker not liquid smoke.

flowers, saffron?

I do like a simple, classic Old Fashioned - but it is a drink that'll happily accept and thrive with a bit of tinkering. Having candied bacon didnt ruin it (far from it!), nor has some other variations I've enjoyed.

It's reminded me I'm running low on Michter's so had better get an order in.

Semi agree. a twist can be good if it doesn’t stray too far, otherwise you aren’t making that drink. I make a great Negroni but using rum instead of gin and use vermouth in a moka pot to brew the coffee. It’s not a Negroni at all is it?

Also no point putting a twist on anything you haven’t mastered the basics for. Technique elevates a drink more than anything and can partially hide bad ingredients. Other way round isn’t true. Saffron, flowers is garnish imho, won’t add anything to the flavour. In my pub, flavour flavour Uber alles!

Lastly, learning new ways to imbibe isn’t at all frivolous sorry.

In other news, a popular PHer friend has moved house and acquired a frivolous new purchase of his own, that resulted one of his fleet sitting on SORN in a dusty garage. It's a car he's let me drive a few times and I've always liked how it goes, how it sounds and how it looks in that colour combo.

I don't have garage space and I certainly can't afford it's market value, and he didn't really want to sell it. But he's very much a gentleman, so we agreed on a mates rates sale price with a very firm first refusal on buyback when I inevitably need the money I splurged on it!

Picked It up last week and it's even more of a hoot than I remembered! He was scrupulously honest that it needs a few niggles doing (such as a new battery, a window regulator and a pair of tyres), but that's small change for bargain entry into the perfect car for enjoying the summer with my new petrol head girlfriend biggrin

rofl

I'm fully expecting some of them to be awful. Just like experimenting with flavours.

TBF... The flower was for the ice.

I loved the Netflix show on competitive mixing so thought I'd have a play.

Got mine free from work! I can't recall why. I think it was some competition I wasn't aware I'd entered....can't complain. There was a choice of prizes and this was something I'd wanted for a while. The ice cream maker is a good toy wink
I looked at the ice cream maker but I think it’s for the standard models not the bowl lift, so happily for my waistline it won’t work biggrin
I do need to use it more though.

Yes it was a bargain as it's never been this cheap on Amazon, but the cost of the stuff I need to now completely rejig the star wars room to accommodate it (high shelving etc, new desk etc) probably negates what he saved...

My brother is an utter Star Wars hoarder - he keeps buying stuff, selling it then buying it back, he's currently selling off a few bits to make room for ''another expensive hobby'' but as sure as eggs is eggs, he'll be buying it all back before the year's out...

He needs to go down the RS Propmasters or DA Props route for absolute accuracy.
