Widespread snow AT ALTITUDE in to tomorrow. Temps won't stay low, so probably a quick thaw of that Welsh snow in to the Severn and Wye...

Nowt compared to some areas, but down here in Oxfordshire, it’s looking vaguely promising.
See the precipitation chance? wink

Do not get too excited - about the only chance we have tonight is a passing shower.

Sleeting on this West Berks hill. That is a good sign for later on!

So snow tonight in Berkshire?
Passing showers - on to wet, warm ground.

Do not get excited (although I can see snow in the wet mix out of my window....)

I wouldn't waste too much time it's not very accurate - it's snowing in Macclesfield and not a dickybird on the map.
Hen tweet them to let them know. Site works on social media reports....

Don't forget to look at the percentage chance of precipitation wink

Where's he getting the 1795 recording from? They didn't keep accurate records back then. Plus it would be highly unlikely that the measurement would be taken in metric units which had only just been invented.
From the BBC themselves: http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/shropshire/hi/people_a...

Recorded in various locations: http://www.cbhe.hydrology.org.uk/all-events.php?pa...

Presumably someone left a marker somewhere.

The twitter poster has been caught out many times though before (my wife is aware of him) - so read his posts with caution.

For that snow warning ^^ It's frontal snow, so cold air hitting a low bringing precipitation. Fine, fine margins - proper knife-edge event.

Judging by the early warnings from schools about possible closures due to snow tomorrow, you'd think Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas were due to resemble the alps tomorrow.
This is the problem with the MetO warning system and the media - yellow now equals panic. I change my plans at amber!

This weekend's weather has been named storm Jorge by the Spanish Met. Pronounced Hor-hay for those that don't know.

Rain in places that don't want it Friday. Wind on Sat.

Interesting charts for a week's time, for the winter lovers. Will keep an eye out.

Long term, a settled March beckons - but absolutely no guarantee on that!

Was awoken by some extremely violent, short lived, gusts in the night. Haven't checked any nearby stats but I'd hazard a guess they were the most extreme of winter.

Why is there this seeming obsession with the weather in the U.K.? I buy into it at times but I wonder what the underlying reason is?
Because we have such boring benign weather. Any extreme is noteworthy.

Kennet is flooding again and closing all roads north out of our village. Didn't take much to achieve that.

Nothing like the seriousness of the Severn though, mostly farmland.
