Came across as a decent chap. Sad news for the family and what not.

Hadn’t realised he was 84. I guess everyone’s getting older all around me!

Since when did 'journalists' become celebrities?

Pilger's investigative TV reports were often newsworthy in themselves. He was more than a 'mere' journalist, IMO.

He certainly became a 'personality', back in the day.

This thread is not just for "celebrities" - despite the title.

It's for any person of significance who passed away in the year. John Pilger was most definitely a person of significance - being a very important investigative journalist who did a lot to expose all sorts of "bad stuff" going on in the world. He is probably most famous for his reporting on the Paul Pot regime in Cambodia.

I forgot he was Australian, but we can't blame him for that, a campaigner for the far left and
an apologist for that oily weirdo Julian Assange, so some you get wrong.

I was sad to see this. When the days before the internet, Twitter, TikTok - journalists had to be journalists. I know they certainly do exist now - but he did have a habit of having an insight to global affairs when news wasn't so readily available. RIP.
