Siege of Jadotville
Not sure we've had this - I've read the whole thread and don't remember seeing it.
13th September 1961 - 155 Irish UN troops hold off a force of 3000-5000 Katangese and mercenaries over a period of 5 days before finally surrendering having run out of ammo and supplies.
0 Irish fatalities and 5 wounded.
300 Katangese killed, and between 300 and 1000 wounded.
The incident was "inconvenient" for the UN and Irish government and no recognition was given to those involved until 45 years later in 2006.
There was a Netflix film released in 2016 which is worth a watch - still available on Netflix.

A truly epic cruise:

I've been reading about in an HMS Hood biography - what a time to be alive!
The admiral commented that he would rather be in action than give his liver another pounding like that!

Started reading an excellent book of this name and discovered the character was real:

The book is fiction and sounds like the actual cellist was not very impressed, until he met the author for a Guinness session: https://www.economicvoice.com/vedran-smailovic-the...

'Alone, Piorun exchanged fire with Bismarck for an hour, with neither side scoring any hits—although after the third salvo, Bismarck missed by only 20 yards (18 m), causing Pławski to pull away.
According to one report (detailed at the Auschwitz I exhibition, Oświęcim, Poland), Pławski transmitted the message "I am a Pole" before commencing fire on Bismarck; other sources say the signal to commence fire was "Trzy salwy na cześć Polski" ("Three salvoes in honour of Poland").[11][12] This manoeuvre and the subsequent withdrawal caused Piorun to lose contact with Bismarck'

Perverse incentive, e.g.
The British government, concerned about the number of venomous cobras in Delhi, offered a bounty for every dead cobra. Initially, this was a successful strategy; large numbers of snakes were killed for the reward. Eventually, however, enterprising people began to breed cobras for the income. When the government became aware of this, the reward program was scrapped. When cobra breeders set their now-worthless snakes free, the wild cobra population further increased.

John-Pierre Adams.
A French footballer, has been in coma for almost 40 years due to a mistake his doctor made while putting him to sleep for a surgery to repair a torn ligament. He was 34 when he went into coma. He is 72 years old now.
He has spent over 36 years unconscious. The time he has spent in coma is now officially more than the time he has spent being aware of himself and of his surrounding.
Just going back through previous entries....this guy died in September...RIP.John-Pierre Adams.
