Does anyone actually use the bottle opener on the Leatherman as intended?

I've found that the pliers side on, braced against a knuckle lets you pop the top off faster than doing it 'properly', and more easily.
Yes, but then I've got a Skeletool, with the permanent bottle opener - it also handily retains the cap too.

In fairness, with a Skeletool it makes perfect sense because it's sort of permanently ready, as you say.

On mine (a Blast), you have to open the grips, unfold the opener blade and then piss about with it as it's a can opener/bottle opener hybrid thing. Or you can just flick open the pliers whilst you hold the tiller steady with a foot (staring into the middle distance), *thunk* open the beer off your knuckle like a pirate and get the crew ready for the next tack.

Tack? With a lax attitude like that, I bet it's more of a jibe

Did anyone ask you as to why you had a multi tool on your person on your wedding day. And did you get to use it, ie cut the cake.
It's nice to hear that people use there tools rather than just chuck them
In a draw.
In a what?

Was that because it closed-up on you? I used to cut myself regularly on my penknives as kid, because they didn't lock like the Leatherything does.
No but I've done that too!

I was carving a champagne cork (no idea why), slipped and stuck the small blade through my hand. Blood everywhere, Mum grabbed dad's car to take me to hospital, we ran out of petrol on the A3 towards Guildford hospital. Oops.

yes I know that one..!! First time I saw superglue used to close up a wound was because of a non-locking knife. The bit between my thumb and index finger was best described as a "flap". smile

This thread got me looking at these a couple of years ago. Ended up getting a Super Tool 300 for Christmas last year. Don't use it enough really, though it has been useful in many situations.

Well I got the bit kit and extender for my Charge!

Just dug out my Gerber Suspension; while the Leatherman tools are generally far better, the spring action on the much cheaper tool is a lot better IMO; the Leatherman also sticks when folding up the pliers and grates a bit.

The Charge is better overall but seeing as you can get a Suspension for not much over £20 on Amazon, I'd recommend it to all but the nerdiest geek (like me).

Not a Leatherman but the same ilk,

Only has pliers, a couple of screwdrivers, bottle opener & blade, but is a great little tool that lives in my pocket and gets used daily. I have taken the pen clip off the other side to make life easier, the blade locks and has a very easy open and close operation with one hand which is perfect.

Wow, just WOW!

Sent back my old Mini Tool - I snapped the file trying to prize open my MTB callipers. Thought I might get a small voucher at best.

A brand new Rebar (bigger, much more expensive) just arrived!

So I now have a Leatherman Rebar and a Charge TTi. Plus a Gerber Suspension and a small Victorox penknife. Almost a collection…!

Just bought a Wave to go alongside the Skeletool I bought a couple of years ago, absolutely love it. The only problem I have is deciding which one to take out with me.

Where do i stand legally with carrying it? Technically it has a locking blade.

As far as I'm aware you need to have a legitimate reason to be carrying one, ie on your way to work or a hobby but I'm happy to be corrected, I doubt it would be the first choice of weapon for most criminals so it would take a picky police officer to question you over it

It's a pain as i'd like to keep it on me but don't want to lose it over some pedantry.
