Modern board/card games

Has anyone played the Cash Decoder / Crooked Cash version of Monopoly? There's 'fake' money in it and you need a magnifying glass/filter that's part of the game to see if it's fake or not. Does it add much to playing the game?
I haven’t played it but I don’t think I’ve found any of the alternate monopoly’s very good.We got Magic Maze at Christmas after being introduced to it by a friend. A collaborative maze based game where you expand the board as the game progresses, with different challenges to complete.
Really good fun, easy to learn, and funny when the other players cant spot the simplest of moves and everyone else is pressuring them to move!

Finally got Ticket to Ride after several years! Must be one of the few gamers that DIDN'T start with that
We've been selling some of our games where we've got similar options or friends have the same game (e.g getting rid of King of New York because we have King Of Tokyo). Just making room for some new ones really!
Played Scythe a few times now and enjoyed although still prefer Wingspan from the same company. We've bought some 3d printed food tokens for Wingspan as well as the european expansion. Wasn't expecting a game about birds to be so popular with us! Also playing Machi Koro legacy which has some fun twists, you get to open little boxes after most games which have changes to the whole gameplay. Good one for playing with kids that are into boardgaming.

We're just getting rid of Star Wars Monopoly as our kid likes more complex games now but that's the only Monopoly I've thought was okay, much quicker, doesn't drag on so long, the jedi/empire cards make things more fun. Any of the games that stick to the traditional monopoly board layout don't do it for me either.Mr E said:

Quacks of quendlingberg(sp?) A game of pushing luck I seem to always pull out the wrong ingredients and blow up but it’s good fun and does reward you for doing badly.
We like this one. Took a couple of goes to “get it”I also forgot to mention I have purchased far to much Memoir 44 and yet have no one who wants to play (that lives locally). I got the base set and then found out that reprints happen every few years and they had just reprinted so I’ve got loads of boxes that I’ve had a look at but never played.
Never played it but like the sound of the app allowing solo.
I keep buying games and never playing them I did manage to get an expansion for D-Day dice off eBay still sealed for about £15 off RRP which was a good find. And 2 kickstarters have come through since I last posted heroes of normandie and V-sabotage, I found V-sabotage a lot easier to setup but what I have realised is lots of expansions doesn’t always make a game better.
So of course yesterday I picked up an expansion for survive so that I can manipulate more people to destroy my enemies

We're playing Pandemic Legacy season zero with daughter. She's absolutely loving it (17), and it's once again a bloody brilliant story with some tough moments.
"Casually", we've really started defaulting to Carcassonne on game nights with BiL/SiL. Great game for playing after a decent meal, nice and chilled and straightforward to chat away and have a few drinks and can switch up the complexity/game length via picking and choosing expansions (which between us we've a fair few of).
So, bought the other half the 2022 'Big Box'. Core game plus 11 expansions - 9 of which are new to us. So after Christmas I'll give the core game plus duplicates to a mate from work to play with their family.
Box is really nice - thick card dividers/organisation to separate the expansions/meeple out plus room for additional. Her birthday is in Jan, so it's likely that I'll get SiL who runs a personalised gift shop to make us a laser cut/engraved nice wooden box with a similar idea but just 'nicer' than card...

Started playing with my brother again recently, got a copy of Flamecraft where you both compete to get the most points by setting up shops around a town and filling them with dragons to help with baking and other tasks, lots of ways to win there, but seems more geared towards 4 players than 2, as it always seems to finish just as we're getting into the bulk of the action.
Undaunted: Stalingrad just arrived too and we're going to get stuck into that tonight, should be a good campaign to play through.
Then finally I've got Frosthaven arriving at some point in the next month or two, hoping that it's just as good as Gloomhaven was.

My Wife and I started playing that in 2020, still got about 2 months left to play and we will get round to it, but haven't opened the box in over a year now...We've been playing pandemic legacy with some friends for about 3 years, we don't see them often enough so only get one or two games in each year.
Harry Potter: Howarts Battle is also good for a campaign game.
We tend to like compact games these days, Regenwormen, Sushi Bar, Bohnanza Bommen & Granaten, Port Royale, Catan dice...
For bigger stuff, Wingspan is excellent.

I haven't been through the entire thread so apologies if it's been posted already but I love a game of Formula D and as this is a motoring forum thought it might appeal to others!

There’s a new racing game out that people are saying is better than Formula D and is from the makers of Flamme Rouge. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/37904/formula-...

Didn't know this thread existed. Have just spent a year in Delhi for work (well, Gurgaon) and board games have been a great way to meet people.
Brought along Brass Birmingham, and two 'Sub continent' themed games (John Company 2 and Pax Pamir 2)
Playing JC2 in India has been an experience for sure (you play as families trying to extract as much money from the East India Company as possible, looting India, selling opium to China so that you can marry well back in London, and build a big country houses for retirement) Turns out some of the group here were involved in the playtesting and art work. The theme is obviously dark, and some people don't like the chaos and conflict (randomness plays a big part, and it is a corruption simulator that encourages the worst behaviour in people) but it is always a memorable and fun play. It shows how 'good' people can do horrendous things if the incentives are right!
Brass Birmingham is excellent. I'm not a big Euro fan, but there's enough randomness & interaction in it to make it a great game. Not sure it deserves to be #1 on BGG though.
Pax Pamir has really cool mechanics, plus is just beautiful.
Also played Eclipse (eh - its good but it's no TI4), Barrage (too Euro for me), Neutrum (a mash up of Barrage and Brass, not sure what I think of it yet), Dune Imperium (one of my favourites) and a whole bunch of lighter/ medium games.
Except Scythe. I loathe it.

I was gifted Heat pedal to the metal and ticket to ride legends of the west for Christmas.
Heat is great, quite simple so a good introduction to gaming but the few games I’ve played I’ve noticed sticking to a strategy and going with it seems to pay off rather than changing things up each lap.
Just started ticket to ride legends of the west which is a legacy game. Some really nice elements and were only a few games in. Currently think it would be a game we’d buy again to play with a different group.
