We have gone from too wet 2 weeks ago now too dry...

Rain every 3-4 days will be good for us so the shower today was helpful.

Increasing signs of heat, humidity and thunder - starting at the weekend.

If you haven't booked to go to Devon and Cornwall yet for half time - it wouldn't be a bad place to go!

Seems a long way to go for just twenty minutes.

Hmmm. Ì planted about 500sq/m of grass seed a couple if weeks ago and it is now dying on its arse. Ì live in s.devon. It always rains in s.devon. Apart from now.

Are you telling me that I am responsible for this drought ? And worse, it is likely to continue?

Got very angry for an hour or so last night but nothing doing. This keeps up we could be in for a cracker.

Well here in the midlands a welcome relief from the crap and wet winter, no rain to speak of, but happy to be watering rather than sheltering.

Is this unseasonably fine spell

a) Global warming
b) The start of the summer of 76 (I seem to remember 75, 77 & 78 being quite good too but it may just be an age thing)
c) Something else

Probably all 3 of the above. Mind you, I don't know how much I don't know about the weather.

Those of you with keen eyes will have noticed that I tipped the wink to this weather pattern back in April. Quite simply it's a continuation of the blocked Atlantic pattern caused by the Sudden Stratospheric Warming towards the end of winter (aided by La Nina, I believe). This warming wind from the East is a 'Beast from the East' in another guise. The East is now warm, so we're warm.

At some point the pattern will end, and the Atlantic will power up again, so let's enjoy it while it's heading off to Iceland instead biggrin

Potential for biggish storms tomorrow. Coming from Kent/Essex and heading WSW. Starting late in the day and lasting well into night. Update in the morning.

Sounds good! smile

We had some flashes and a few big rumbles near Maidstone in Kent yesterday afternoon.

This morning's low cloud will clear for most by lunchtime. NE coast may well stay dreary, as usual in such conditions!

We are now entering a period of heavier thundery activity. Still trying to details on tonight (kind of appeared from nowhere yesterday).

Then a trough will bring big storms Thursday to Friday, moving northwards. Probably NE areas of England.

Temps rise over the weekend with unstable and hot/humid air from the continent. Widespread heavy thunder likely. I'll be flying to Italy on Sunday, so will struggle to update!

Had a few big high clouds in the distance last night but not a lot. Got the "brewing" feel to it.

End of May bank holiday temp record sits at 28.2 degrees.

I'll just leave that here...
