Not contributed to this thread before, but here goes.

I never knew how much this annoyed me until preparing Christmas dinner this year with Mrs P.

I’m happy to do pretty much 95% of the cooking in our house, so was preparing Christmas Day lunch, but needed a hand to peel potatoes for Mash and roasting.

So Mrs P steps up, and starts Peeling them over the sink.

I then notice she is using one of our sharp serrated knives instead of the excellent Sebatier Potato Peeler I always use.

I said “ Use the Peeler for gods sake” , why she says?

I show her that her method is literally wasting about a 1/4 of the potato as the peeled slices are about 5mm thick.

“ Ok she says, i will, use the peeler “ picks it up starts using it.

I go back to making my 4 herb and garlic crust for turkey.

I then notice that she has oddly put her back to me at a very strange angle, so I look closer.

She had positioned herself that way so she can carry on using the knife instead of the peeler, but cant see what she is using!

I was literally amazed!

Rant over.
Interested to know what peeler you like to use, is it the straight peeler that looks like a catapult or the Professional peeler with the bent blade?

Funnily enough, I have never got on with a straight peeler but have got great results with a French peeler.

Good question, it’s the Professional Peeler I believe, so not the one that’s like a catapult.

It’ has a pivoting straight blade, I find it really easy to use and very efficient.

I can never get on with those, much prefer the Oxo Goodgrip once with the same blade as that but mounted straight.

I know the type. yes

Oddly, I can't get the hang of those. Guess it is a personal preference and different people are different. Who knew? biggrin

They are not expensive on amazon and the likes, about £6 from them if I recall.

However I’m pretty sure I got mine from Homestyle on the retail park.

A warning however, they have lots of really nice Sabatier knives in there,it gets very expensive!

Ok, back on topic.

Ripoff prices when you have a captive audience. I'm at the O2 and its £4 for a bottle of coke, £11 for a bag of popcorn, or £22 for a flashing wand. It's a kids show (Disney on ice) and they're clearly set up to sell tat that loads of kids will want at crazy prices.

Annoying, but your ticket would cost more if they weren't selling the other stuff.

I have both versions catapult one and straight mounted with rocking facility - I don’t know one I like best - preference is dictated by which one I find in the drawer first - I couldn’t find either on xmas day so used a “traditional” one I found in the drawer - that went in the bin with the peelings

I much prefer the straight ones. You can pretty much peel a complete potato/apple/whatever in one peel.

Oh, and refusing to give me their current address so I can send him a Christmas card frown
