Why is it ok to rev a race car from cold to heat it up but not a normal car?

If you're talking about an F1 car they're pre-heated by having hot water plumbed through them before start up. Also race engines are usually rebuilt far more often than road car engines.

And i dont think they rev them all that far right off the bat (relative to the redline anyway)

Why do various non-UK peoples take personal phone calls on their mobile via loudspeaker ? They often face the handset as though they're video calling but more often than not its audio only. Is it for cultural or technical reasons ?

How do they do sound checks at place like Glastonbury or reading festivals? The big acts just rock up, do their thing and ps off, so how do they get all the levels bang on without the actual act being there?
I just read an article on performing at Glastonbury which mentions they have a team of sound specialists that will generally try to set levels and so on during the first song, because the only act that could really do a sound check is the first one on. The gaps between acts are quite short, so the gear for the second band is normally set up on wheeled trolleys ready to push out, multiple sound desks so one can be set up ready for the act, and so on. A bit old but quite interesting. http://www.performing-musician.com/pm/feb09/articl...

If its on speaker the logical thing to do would be to face the phone so that your voice is projected towards the mic.

As to why its popular outside the UK, I don't know! smile

No that's not accurate. The mic isn't on the front of most phones, its underneath where the connector socket is. Also the loudspeaker is here too. They often do it with the phone flat horizontal - where the mic and the loudspeaker are situated, on the bottom of the iphone for exampl

e.g.

In the area of the Front Line during the First World War, where did the displaced French and Belgian civilians go?

Why do so many actors and comedians have strong Left leaning political views? Is there ever going to be a smug, self gratifying satire show based around Right of centre viewpoints?

I'd imagine it's because the BBC are pushing those ones on the mainstream viewer.

http://encyclopedia.1914-1918-online.net/article/refugees_france

There were around 160000 displaced Belgians in 1914-15 that came to the UK.

I'm guessing especially in the U.S the scare stories about early mobile phone use
causing potential brain tumors if the handset was held to the ear.

TV programmes - "celebs" and "reality stars" are always shown using the phone on speaker mode and holding it so the sound recording kit can pick up the whole conversation. If "celebs" do it, it must be cool, innit?

Apart from being fekking annoying, why do immigration stamp passports on random pages, why not start at the top of page one, then then put the next stamp underneath that and so on.
