TheJimi and myself had this discussion the other day, but... Genuine Creed Aventus is dead to me.
I haven't had a bottle of it for probably 3 years or more now, but have enjoyed clones such as Emperor Extract and recently, Armaf Club de Nuit. I was walking through the fragrance area of Selfridges a few days ago, and thought I would give myself quite a few seizable sprays of Aventus from the tester, simply to remind myself what the real deal smelled like, and just to enjoy it.
It smelled a little weak, and to my nose, had lost some of the zing that made it so popular years ago. I also realised that if I smelled it on someone, I would probably struggle to tell the difference between it and Armaf, it was so similar. The disappointment continued when after about a couple of hours I could barely smell it. The next morning I had a sniff of my shirt from the day before, and it was gone. The 'old' Aventus batches could easily be still be smelled quite strongly days later on clothing.
I know it's nice to own the real deal, the nice bottle, and so on, but honestly, and just in my opinion, you are completely wasting £295. Armaf CDN will give you virtually the same scent, but with better longevity, for a paltry £29 for 105ml. If you are feeling more spendy, Emperor Extrait will very much give you the classic '2013' Aventus smell, and excellent longevity, for £127 (using their discount code), which is honestly too much. It always used to be about £70 before our £ tanked against the dollar, and it was decent value.
Having tried a few clones, I'm more than happy with Armaf. It is silly cheap and smells great.
Coincidently, I saw a video on this subject this week, and it's worth a watch. A perfumer blind samples 6 Aventus clones and tries to identify the real Aventus amongst them. Interesting are his comments about the real Aventus being extremely weak, and 'gone in no time'. He also says that in his opinion, Creed are no longer a niche fragrance house, and are now just mass production product, for a very high price.

I have never smelled the 'good aventus' or emperor, but I agree on Armaf - Regardless of whether it is trying to mirror something else it's a great value for money scent that gets a lot of compliments. I'm wearing Chanel Bleu today, thought I'd share a snippet of my current collection - I have quite a few Penhaligons 10ml left (George, Duke, Endymion EDC, plus women's ones) that are up for sale if anyone is interested or potentially swapping for something.

I still have 30ml of the X02 batch. The super batch that came before the famous Z01 batch. A few years later I ended up receiving a bottle as a gift and it smelled nothing close to the X02 batch. This was way before they were sold and reformated Aventus, I can't imagine how bad it is now.
I now hardly wear it as I don't want to finish the good stuff and the fact that every other person either wears it or a clone.

Regarding the other Creed fragrances - any opinions on current batches? I have the TEV equivalents of Erolfa, GIT, Himalaya, Royal Water and Silver Mountain Water. I've also got the PV version of Millesime Imperial (Rush of Unicorns). I'm not in any rush to buy the genuine Creed versions.

I've just ordered some of the Armaf. I have some Aventus from Tom's Decants and must admit I like it, but haven't anything to compare it to.
The one thing I would say is that for the first 60 seconds after spraying, you will probably think the Armaf smells a bit synthetic and plastic. Don’t let that put you off. That goes away within a minute, and you are left with a really good Aventus-alike.It’s a shame that Creed have gone down the pan (IMO) but it was bound to happen after they got sold 2 years ago to venture capitalist owners who simply want maximum profit. They were family owned and a private business for 250 years, never been sold before, and had managed to keep standards pretty high for all that time, but that’s all gone out the window now.
I tried genuine Creed Santal a few weeks ago and had the same experience as Aventus. Smelled nice enough but weak at the same time, and it was gone within a couple of hours. My wife could barely smell it on me at all by the 2-3 hour mark. I suspect Santal has been watered down as well (IMO)

I have an older split of Original Santal - it'll be a shame if Creed have st the bed with that too.I tried genuine Creed Santal a few weeks ago and had the same experience as Aventus. IME Aventus Emperor Extrait is #1 in my collection for compliments.
I will probably buy another bottle of this when mine runs out. Even at the slightly higher price (due to the £/$ and inflation etc) it's still excellent VFM imo.My Armaf Club De Nuit Intense arrived today. It smells (in my opinion) a little more lemony (is that a word? ) than Aventus but on the whole it is pretty close, from memory (Aventus is at work) and for £27 or so for 105ml it is a brilliant fragrance. Obviously not sure on its longevity but thanks for the recommendation.
So after a few hours my thoughts are....
As said earlier, upon spraying it's pretty awful and nothing like Aventus when that is initially sprayed. After about a minute it totally changes, similar to Aventus, perhaps a bit more citrus/lemon scent to it. As time progresses that seems to settle and becomes even more like Aventus.
Do I prefer my Aventus from Tom's Decants? Yes. Is there a really significant difference? No.
It seems like 95% Aventus for 10% of the price. Even at Tom's prices at £160/100ml it's still 1/6 of the price.
Good recommendation and I won't be buying Aventus again. I'm still yet to decide RE Emperor Extrait. It's 6x the price (ish) of this. Is it 6x the fragrance? Probably not. I'd have to try it again to see (or rather, smell).

Looky Looky! Bargains! Much Cheapness!
Time to move on a few, simply to try some others. Last time I sold a job lot on this thread, the buyer was well pleased, so might as well do it again.
Penhaligons The Tragedy of Lord George - 25% full - Cost £215 - This was my regular travel/work bag fragrance and as such the label is tatty and the sprayer cap is broken, but don't worry, I will include a travel atomiser which fills seamlessly when pressed onto the bottle stem.
Parfums Vintage Isla Tropical - 50% full - Cost £80 - Very very high quality copy of Creed Virgin Island Water and smells absolutely mega. Stupidly long lasting
Armani ADG Profondo - 98% Full - Cost £70
Armani ADG Profondo - Travel size - 75% full - Cost £25
Floris Santal - 50% Full - Cost £60
Includes 2 x boxed samples of the new Floris 007.
In monetary value, taking into account how much is left in each, there is £210 worth. I'm selling the job lot for £110 including tracked postage (PayPal).

Yes, you are absolutely correct, I meant Profondo! Clearly haven't had enough coffee today!
For anyone wondering, Profondo is a fresh, clean, aquatic/blue fragrance. Ideal for daily wear, or office etc.
