I can honestly say I've never seen one of these bestickered 4x4 saviours of mankind round here (Fife/Edinburgh), or indeed anywhere else in Scotland. Or in the Lake District. I wonder what the geographical distribution is? Are they more prevalent the flatter the landscape, and the less likely of heavy snowfall?
They are here!

You can sometimes see them at the odd car show or Truckfest, at one show I recall them claiming they're allowed to use blue lights when they work with the police. Never actually seen them out in the wild though!

Why is there a picture of a child in a toy Land Rover on the screen on the left ?

Is the recruitment and selection process for Response 4x4 so tough that prospective Road Warriors start training and are "conditioned" from the age of 6 ?

The Walt’s were out last night here on the Island wking themselves off. All the cool people were out in their MX5s , I would have been out in Missus Zippy MX5 but had done a bottle of red by the time the snow started.
‘Cool’ people drive MX5s?
It's the isle of wight
I don't think the Isle of Wight has the MX5 yet. They've only just got Ceefax.
You all mock me but they were out I tell you and not a Walt to be seen in their hour of need. These mx5 drivers had to make do with a shovel and raw power to get home

Apologies, he's apparently not called Edward Bear, but Bill. Not Bill the moderator one hopes. hehe

Looking at their webpage lots of posts like "We can't give more details, confidentiality issues you know, (taps nose, nod and a wink) but .... (second man on the balcony) more blether

All with pictures of not much snow.

Fine if you want to get out and help folks, it's just the self aggrandising as they do is just so yuck.

The scary thing is that some of these 4x4 Warriors must think they are heroes to actually come up with the name "The Few".

I wonder if they have pictures of AA/ RAC patrols on their bedroom walls.
They must worship those guys.
The weather never stops them.

And taxi drivers ... Never known a bit of snow to put those guys off.

Top of the list must be the Local Authority gritter truck driver though.

Would you really want to get in a car with someone who relishes the thought of being thought of as a hero ? Nope, me neither.

I don't think it's the 4x4 Responders who have named themselves 'The Few', just a misguided equipment supplier. You may wish to add to the comments on their FB page, you'll find the offending T-shirt easily enough: https://www.facebook.com/1948OriginalEquipment/?fr...

I wouldn't put it past the. The Facebook pages are cringe worthy. One shows them outside a hospital, "our # responders dropping off nurses". The ground is wet, literally no snow at all. In another post they refer to the "opppos" in the police. They also list a lest we forget image. Which I know a lot of people do but with all the walty military terminology that use it comes across as them seeing themselves on the same plane.

Meanwhile the various mountain rescue groups who've also been helping out are far more low key .

.
I haven't seen that, neither do I particularly want to 'cos it would really piss me off.

My local hospital has around 150 volunteers who give their time day-in, day-out, 365 days of the year. None of them feels the need to blow their own trumpet all over the internet, they quietly get on and help with dignified modesty.

You mean the one I directly linked to yesterday lunchtime ?
You most definitely will never be a Walt. A true Walt would read back all posts and memorise them.
Your non walt credentials are safe but best keep some boiled sweets in the glovebox in case of a breakdown

Given the cost of parking at hospitals, those nurses are probably pulling a fast one and using these self-satisfied knights of the road to save some money! rofl
