Do the double glazing salesman in shopping centres ever actually sell anything? I popped to our local place today to get an anniversary card and he asked me twice about 3 mins apart and he was looking decidedly pissed off through boredom. I know the answer must be yes they do or they wouldn't bother, but it just seems a stra ge use of someone's time especially these days where just about everyone has already got double glazing and easy access to the Internet to find double glazing themselves.

There really can't be many homes without it now?Clockwork Cupcake said:
I've owned several rare-ish and/or enthusiast cars over the years - Corrado VR6, Lotus Elan SE Turbo, and two TVRs, and the owners of those always flashed / waved at each other. If only to say "Hey! Yours hasn't broken down today either!"
But if they don't flash back, is it through rudeness, or because their lights have gone?Shakermaker said:

One would, for certain, stay down, and the other would creak and judder up so slowly, you'd have passed the oncoming vehicle and would just confuse another driver 500 yards later.

The early stuff is knackered now though. And everyone wants grey/brown, not white. Clockwork Cupcake said:

It depends on the age of the car, the older they are, the more hardcore or just plain nuts you will be hence more likely to wave to other nutters.
Or rarity. If you drive a rare car or marque, where it is fairly unlikely you will see another, owners are more likely to flash.
But, yes, it is much more likely to be an enthusiast thing. I see it as fairly harmless and a bit of fun, personally.

To do either one properly, you've really got to be resigned to sacrificing the other.

I can't see new Aston, Rolls or Ferrari owners waving at each other somehow though, older ones would.
True. I think it has to be rare *and* enthusiast really. As SpeckledJim says, the poseurs are going to consider themselves above such things and are more likely to turn their noses up at each other than to wave at each other.
House spiders:
When I throw spiders out of the house can they survive outside? There seem to be two types, what I would call a normal house spider and those with tiny bodies and really long almost microscopic legs which gyrate or swing up and down on the web when disturbed.
Also, how do they survive in there and what do they eat? House spiders seem to have no webs and there aren't many insects anyhow. Do they just get in somehow and starve?

There's loads of stuff in your house for a spider to eat. We just don't want to be aware of it. Imagine how little fuel a spider (cold-blooded, and stationary 99.9% of the time) actually needs. When I throw spiders out of the house can they survive outside? Do they pop up just for a flash ? The 924/944's certainly don't - the auxiliary lights in the bumper (in the sidelight housing) do the flash.gothatway said:

On the Lotus Elan M100, the lights did their flash as they were coming up, which meant you actually flipped your pop-up headlights at someone rather than flashed them. Well, it did on mine anyway. Clockwork Cupcake said:
