Christians on PH?

I have re-read this thread and I think what people are trying to tell me, in a polite way, is that Father Christmas is not real.
Disappointed to say the least.
He was, until everything went tits up. His TomTom packed up and led him into an ambush by the four horsemen of the apocalypse. If the silly old sod had had traffic on it, this wouldn't have happened. I reckon global warming had a hand in it, too, but that's strongly denied by George Monbiot.Disappointed to say the least.

Aggressive atheism appears to be a whole new religion ironically, with a ready supply of zealots.
Its not a religion its a conclusion.Quite frankly the fact that grown ups think they have an invisible friend in the sky is bad enough, however to make it other peoples problem by enforcing their religion onto my life is when it starts to get up my nose.
Religion is like a willy. Dont wave it about in public and dont force it down childrens throats.

Completely fruit loopy.
Being an atheist and a doctor I feel that if I wasn't let into the heaven then large quantities of people who helped their fellow man much less than I managed to get in over the top of me, by faith alone.
It would therefore prove that God rates faith or belief higher than actual deeds.
Ergo God places more emphasis on his own worship than us mortals being nice to each other.
So if I end up in hell I will have proven that god is quite a selfish narcissist, and not much of a benevolent omnipotent?
That makes quite a few assumptions on the amount of faith and/or works required to pass the bar (if you are converted, what percentage of your life is needed to qualify as faithfull? Does it count if you are christian but convert to another faith close before death, is there a minimum amount of good deeds needed? Do bad deeds cancel out or expire? etc..)Being an atheist and a doctor I feel that if I wasn't let into the heaven then large quantities of people who helped their fellow man much less than I managed to get in over the top of me, by faith alone.

There are far easier arguments to disprove the benevolent omnipotent image, just take a look at africa, most of those poor buggers are far more religious then us europeans, yet they suffer badly. No merciful omnipotent being would stand by that and do nothing.

As long as you're not hit by a bus or die of something sudden and unexpected.
It's up to you to decide whether the risk is work taking. The catholics aren't so open when it comes to sex, but open season on drink, so it's not all bad.
And if you get time to sorry then the world is your lobster.

Seems to be that people who prefer their belief without evidence are particularly thin skinned when anyone points out any problems or inconsistencies. There have been any number of incredible assertions made on here with absolutely no supporting evidence bar some vague and contradictory iron age scribblings. Presumably you believe that these assertions should never be challenged, but to most people the crazier the assertion that greater the need for rational thinking people to be sceptical.

You've been on this site for a while. There are threads like this on a fairly regular basis. In what way did this go differently from how you expected? Thanks

I still don't get why you need religious motoring friends. Is in case you're tainted by exposure to others or get asked so many questions about blind faith that yours might falter?

If I came across that way I apologise. I am a confirmed atheist, but brought up in the catholic condition that says you can be a all your life then apologise with your last breath.I quite prefer my view - do what i like when i'm here, make the most of it and try not to be a .

I feel your pain. Sadly for all this site does it is not the place to get a sensible discussion about faith. Thanks

Some people really are angry about religion-some no doubt with good reason-but the balanced comments seem few and far between.
The moment the invisible friend comments start I feel my stomach sink.
One of the first philosophy of religion essays I wrote several decades ago was 'Religion is caught not taught.' Discuss.
Or not on here.Let's rant about about how no one could possibly be remotely rational and have a faith. Thank you all the agnostics and atheists who have been genuinely inquiring.
According to my copy of Church Times (dangerous liberal C of E) 80% Anglican churchgoers have degree qualifications or higher. We're still all illogical and deluded though, presumably just more able to articulate the nature of our faith.
Oh well-keep trying!

It is bemusing how different "religions" sell you their particular brand though.

I'd like someone religious to explain to me why a being that was able to create a universe that is larger than our imagining - billions of galaxies, maybe pocket universes and multiverses as well - and, presumably, can access all of time chose to reveal his recipe for moving on to another level of existence to a bunch of people on this planet and at that point in history.
Does it seem likely that such an amazing being beyond our understanding would do that?
It's a bit like me being CEO of a large multinational company and deciding to reveal a new product or strategy that will benefit everyone in my employ. But instead of going to my senior team and engaging in clear communication with the rest of the company I decide to get over the message to the company by emailing a practically illiterate guy who cleans the toilet in a five man office in the scrag end of Papua.
Also I'll make the emails sporadic and unclear, just to endure confusion. Then I'll complain when people don't get the message, fire lots of them and generally get the huff.
Seem likely?
