It's just Pistonheads. You can guarantee that if David Beckham or Ben Stokes died, there would be posters gleefully posting that they had never heard of them.
I hadn't heard of Ben Stokes until I just googled him. Why would you think I'd be gleeful about that? It's just a statement of fact, the same as I don't know who the managing director of British Aerospace is or who won the Oscar for best soundtrack last year.

Not being able to count to 20 is a bad thing, not knowing who a person is that has no impact on your life but some other people do know of is of no consequence at all.

Maybe not odd, he’s merely saying that if a well known footballer or cricketer died, he wouldn’t celebrate the fact that he was unsure who they were.
Unlike quite a few PHers, who appear to be proud of the fact that they didn’t know of Kobe Bryant.
Don’t know why that should be.
Show me one person who said they are proud not to know who he was. Just for the record I couldn't name any of his team mates, I am not proud of that either its just a fact.

Doors. Specifically doors to shops, restaurants, cafes etc where they either need to be pushed or pulled but there's no sign on them to give an indication of which way that particular door can be opened.

The frustration is further compounded when one of the two doors is locked so it can take four attempts to enter the building - push and pull the locked door then push the open door before eventually succeeding with a pull of the open door.

Yep - there's a special place in hell for shopkeepers and office managers who, without signage, only partially unlock their entrances.

The lift lobby at work. Leave at one end and you push the door to exit, if you leave the other end you pull the door to exit. Yep keep getting them mixed up.

Also, automatic doors that take too long to open, so that you have to slow down (and sometimes even stop) as you wait for them to slowly grind open.

ID card operated turnstiles that keep breaking down. Present card, click, push, and halfway round you dislocate your wrist and bang your head on the bars as it locks up.

Electronic door locks in hotels annoy the hell out of me,

Put the door card near your mobile phone and often it wipes the memory code from the card! So you go back to your room and the card does not work.
So another trip down to reception to get the things reprogrammed

I think when people are discussing someone who has passed their sense of loss makes them particularly sensitive to any remark that seems 'uncaring' or nonchalant. On the other hand people who don't know the deceased are puzzled by the strength of emotion an unknown (to them) person merits from those who knew the individual(s). Tolerance from both sides?

10 microns either way would be my estimate, based on the argument so far. What's sadder than the argument itself is the sheer number of missed opportunities by the "inexplicably offended" to ignore the "wilfully/proudly ignorant" posters and get back to discussing their sporting hero and his legacy. Seriously? If you think someone is "trolling" a thread, or you in particular, then the worst thing you can do is acknowledge them. Just post something positive to try to steer the thread back onto topic...?

By stating their position they give voice to their loss, it's quite common. Normally this happens in a supportive environment. However, when others don't acknowledge... . anyway, yes, you're right.
