Never knew it was possible for pens to look sexy. Oh god what whirlpool have I went down.

Enjoying the pics, resisting the wallet. Damn some of you are prepared to spend on a hobby someone won't give a st about, I like that.

Have Japanese family so the way of do impresses me and seems a bit silly at the same time but damn, I didn't realise they have such good pens.

I've been trying to use fountain pens more but since I do all my note taking on a remarkable these days I don't have much call for it. I have a Montblanc Starwalker Extreme which was a wedding gift from my wife, it needs a new lid because the resin is cracking and I think the nib may also need replacing after it was dropped early on in its life sadly. Just need to summon up the funds for a MB service! Anyone got any recent experience of MB servicing?

Recently though I've taken delivery of this Wingback fountain pen in black steel. I really like their stationery and already had the ball pen and mechanical pencil, so this was to complete the set.

It's actually quite tiny without lid but when posted it's perfect size and weight. I need to change the ink though as the cartridge that came with it isn't great. I will try out one of the MB cartridges I already have. Just need to find some excuses to use it!

That is a dramatic looking pen, thanks for posting.

I looked at their website, to help others

https://wingback.co.uk/collections/fountain-pen

I was trying to think of what it reminded me of, perhaps the Muji pen

In terms of MB service, if you are in UK and Europe then the service is perfect, expensive but perfect, the pen will come back with a warranty and have faulty parts replaced. There is a question mark over whether you pay for replacement parts, I didn't pay but I know other people who paid the service charge of, from memory £100 including mailing and then had to pay for new parts on top.

My situation was that I had a 149 that had purple staining, the boutique asked if I had been using Diamine Ink as they had seen the problem before.

MB Hamburg changed the barrel for me at no cost.

I would recommend that you take the pen in to a boutique and not just put it in the mail. I go to MB Royal Exchange opposite the Bank of England, I think the staff argue on your behalf with Hamburg. I appreciate that it is a bit of a ballache if you are not nearby.

I also have a Namiki Nippon Art pen, with a more conventional nib, which gets used more often.

Sorry the pictures aren’t great!
Oh that's very pretty. I like that a lot.

edit: Far less keen on the £425 price tag though.

Is Montegrappa going to be ok in a Parker 51? Our local decent pen place has some and it is a nice colour.

You will be fine, as long as it is washable, just makes the flushing through a little bit easier.

Montegrappa do a very good deep purple but I appreciate that may clash with your pen colour.

(Two rock references in one sentence, pretty good)

Thanks.

If the image is true this should look good, I hope.

Ah, so a solid performer but not exceptional, and with rare flashes of brilliance? biggrin

Here's my current collection: A Pilot capless, a Shaeffer snorkel and a random Shaeffer from the past:

The snorkel is fascinating - I think they were compared to Hummingbirds during their marketing campaigns in the 50s/60s:

Anyone have a Nakaya pen?
I ordered a personalised one during lockdown - I think delivery was around 8 months later.
<snip for size>

I was going to order one so I could have my name on it (free service) as I had worked it out in Kanji (complete with a meaning), I then found Nakaya were about to increase theirn prices (which has happened a second time since) so bought while I could from Sakura Fountain Pen Galleries. Thoroughly recommend Katherine. Bought a Decapod second hand off a friend, nib had been adjusted to a cursive italic by Mike Masuyama and works well for me (previous owner was a left hooker and he had no issues with it either).
Got a lower model Namiki make-e - a Nippon Art which can be seen this coming Sunday in London wink

I think that you would be hard pressed to find three more different pens.

To say how complex the Snorkel was in extending the straw through twisting a knob at the far end of the pen, filling the pen and then retraction it is amazing how reliable the system has proved to be, credit to Sheaffer.

The one on the right looks like a Targa but I'd need to see a pic of the section and nib to be sure.

Uh oh. I've made the mistake of going onto Aliexpress and searching for "fountain pen". eek

This looks fun, if slightly tacky.

£3.51 including postage.

The Jinhao X450 is still available for as little as £3.76 including shipping.

There's also this for £83.52 but that feels like too high a risk to me. You don't know what you're getting.

This thread has made me dig out the Lamy Safari. However…

Can someone tell me how to fill the converter from a half-empty ink bottle? (Without tipping it out and/or covering myself in ink)

I used a bangle (as in a bracelet) to tip it at an angle. I keep meaning to make something more sturdy out of wood.

This is available, 3D-printed from a seller in the USA, but they don't ship to the UK sadly.

"Japan PILOT Fountain Pen 14K Gold Nib 95s Elite 95th Anniversary"
Picture snipped due to size
Was going to ask where you got the 95th Anniversary from, but it might have been released in the US at that point and they needed a name.
I have one - the JDM version, had it for about 6 years now and it is back out as the pen attached to my Midori Passport journal (the small one, passport size). Love the nib, it's on the softer side, unsurprising due to it's length.
From memory the original 1970s pen was the Elite. As with all those style of pens (I have a Sailor from that time) the models were gradually dropped. Then in the mid tens (2013 would mark the 95th anniversary) there was demand from the USA for a new version of the model and Pilot decided to take the punt. As Pilot had already licensed the international rights to the Elite name to a Thai (?) company it was called the E95S. A while later (couple of years) a demand started for it in Japan so they launched it there under the original name, Elite. The only difference (aside from the US one coming with a converter) is the name on the cap (in the same font).
I bought mine through Rakuten Global back when they were around (looks like they now just ship from Japan) for ~£58 (which may have included the cost of the additional converter)

(and yay - worked out how to link in smaller pictures from Imgur than before (going back to previous post to fix if I can)
