Don't worry, when my party get into power they will be the first up against the wall.

Yes, for sure, on a pavement they are safe enough although they're a danger to themselves when they cross a road, or come to a part of the road that doesn't have a pavement.
I just wondered as I regularly walk to the pub wearing dark clothes and with dark hair, though that gets less dark all the time, and I've always considered that as I'm on the pavement, it doesn't really matter to anyone who isn't also on the pavement. In the short stretch where there is no street lighting and the pavement is narrow it can be an issue if I encounter another pedestrian, but more often than not a passing car gives enough warning to both of us, and then it's just down to the endless shuffle as we both attempt to move to the same side for the other to pass.

If there was no pavement, that would be a different issue of course. When I started having to go to another pub that would have a one-mile section with no pavement whichever route I took, I bought a bike and got some lights. I don't like being dressed up like Blackpool Illuminations, but I do accept that in the fight between car and pedestrian, I'm going to lose every time. Now I just get annoyed when some oncoming cars don't dip their main beams because I'm only a cyclist.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on PH, someone is moaning about cyclists with lights that are too bright, or which flash at such a frequency that they give the poster seizures, or some other bull. I've no sympathy with 'Ninja' cyclists, but I've also got no sympathy with drivers who get all quivery about the bottom lip over "excessive" lighting levels on bicycles either. You cannae ha' it both ways, mon...
There is a lone cyclist on my patch who has a very bright flashing front light. If he is oncoming, your eyes are drawn towards it, even momentarily. Could be distracting to some.

Although it does make him visible, otherwise dressed in dark clothing.

I agree, this for some reason drives me barmy.

All of which reminds me of a certain poster on here who thinks, in his replies, he should use part of your name and add an o. So, I have been called Johno. Don't do it.

They've probably been on hold for ages and never actually expected to get through, so their surprise is probably genuine. smile

Well I know it wasn't me, because I either quote a post or tend to type usernames in full, or reduce them to initials. Yours doesn't work as "JS" because it's all one word. And the post above is almost certainly the first time I've ever typed my name or initials at the bottom. Usually I rely on the format of the forum posts to let people know who it is that is posting.

As for the sarcasm? Yes, you're right. It's not that funny. But then it wasn't meant to be, but this is the "things that annoy you beyond reason" thread, and I was aiming more at causing annoyance than making you laugh... wink

'Cheers The Moose' being the only slightly amusing example of what is otherwise an annoyance I share biggrin

There was one poster I recall who insisted on adding a smiley face at the bottom of every single post they made. Until I guess he/she stopped and saw sense.

One always added the drinking emoticon - I remember that.

Didn't Neil Chambers write "Neil Chambers" at the end of every post he made?

Beginning and end on some of his posts. His programming algorithm was out of sync.

Drive anywhere around the East End on a winter morning, people dressed exactly as you say but on black push bikes with no lights weaving around potholes.
Oh, absolutely. yes

I call them "Ninja Cyclists" and they are by no means confined to the East End. I remember not long after passing my test (far more years ago than I would like to admit to), back when I lived in Cheltenham, and starting to turn into a side road and a ninja cyclist riding along the pavement flashed* past inches from my front bumper. Full emergency stop on my part. Scared the st out of me and made me very circumspect ever since.

(* - in sense of 'at speed', rather than displaying any illumination whatsoever, before some smart alec comments)
I nearly hit one some years back who was wearing Combat 95 camouflage, which is specifically designed to reduce reflections.

Well, you did neither. It wasn't funny and you didn't annoy me. Unlike the person who adds the "O"

Moose should have continued doing that, he should never have backed down, if only to annoy those strange people who get repeatedly, irrationally apoplectic when somebody mentions frozen sausages.
