Yes, I can see that being an unpopular opinion.

Remember that and you'll not put your foot in your mouth next time...maybe.
Indeed. And what if you were doing something you liked.

Quoting that in case of deletion.

please leave Moonraker alone - its the best bond film ever. (ok, maybe not ever, ok maybe its the best roger moore one - it was the first one I saw at the ciname so I think its ace - it had "lasers" and everything and has the best line from any bond film - "hang on james" "the thought had occurred to me" - so there).

Worst film ever made - where to start, top gun is a good shout jingoistic bks, the Chronicles of Riddick - omg just awful...but I give you

Well done, it's so easy to make a snippy comment on here in the heat of the moment.
Not so easy to take it back.
We should remember that we are all human beings bound together by a common love of motoring and be nicer to each other have another. beer

I know this is the unpopular opinions thread, but that's ridiculous!

Nope, he's right. The Green Mile is complete garbage.

Yes, let’s get rid of all team sports, no benefit to be had there? Have you had to read a map lately?
yes, lots of maps. map reading is incredibly useful.

team sports are fine, but the massive focus on football/rugby is bizarre.
They are 2 of the most popular, if not the 2 most popular, team sports in the country.

What part of them being taught in schools is it that you find bizarre?

Is this just the standard PH "I don't like it, therefore it's wrong" POV?
I expect schools to focus on all aspects of an education and development, not just what is popular.
Your history lessons are not the history of the FA. Your geography lessons are not the locations of different pitches/stadiums. Your art lessons are not drawing Messi. etc...

These sports are so popular because they are played so much in schools.
Focus on darts and swordfighting in schools, and those will become the popular sports in time.

A nice balanced curriculum of main sports?

My school just did rugby and cricket when I joined, added round ball football a couple of years later.

football though - its cheap to get kids to play it. You don't need masses of special "kit" you just need a ball, some open space and some goalposts. Jumpers will suffice, or just, any two arbitrary marks on the fence.

You don't need anything else, no: special bat, racket, net, stumps, helmet, stick, line judge, swimming trunks, gum shield, horse, kicking tee, video referee, caddy, pit crew, nothing else. Just a ball. Total cost of entry to get a bunch of school kids playing football: £10.

So is Tig (tag in your region?)
Which is why these sports are great for kids to play at breaktime or after school.

PE is there to develop children physically. Promoting extra football just seems a waste of time to me when there are much better activities they could be doing.

Neither profession is noted for academic excellence.

Physical development and playing a team sport at the same time, at almost zero cost.

We had football at primary school, and then rugby at secondary school. I wasn't very good at either. Should probably have stuck with rugby as I have the body shape for it now but as a gangly 11 year old with no co-ordination I wasn't all that keen

I'm not a footie fan. I could count the number of times I've been to a game on the fingers of one hand.

But, teaching it at school is sensible, in my view.

The majority of kids have kicked a ball in their back garden with their dad, siblings, or mates long before they get to school. Most enjoyed that. So the school can build on something they know - and, by and large, enjoy - to create co-ordination, fitness, team-work, anticipation, strategy, discipline.

It isn't about teaching them football at all.

The average football player cant perform their sport without spilling a pint... ergo, darts win.

The reason they cant teach darts at school is because the Daily Mail would go apoplectic at the notion of these COMMUNIST teachers giving our kids deadly throwing weapons.

I was at school when the (Australian) government dictated that javelins could no longer be used. Not like that were dangerous, plastic sticks with blunt metal ends, up until then we were all taught how to throw them. We also were taught how to throw hammers, high jump, long jump (when the groundskeeper could be bothered to maintain the pit). My school was around the corner from a swimming pool (I believe they're called Lido's here) so for 1 term a year we went swimming for a few hours a week.

Schools here could benefit from having a more varied sporting curriculum. Scottish schools could introduce caber tossing, start kids off with a ruler, move up to a 2x4... it'd be fun and culturally enriching.

Ok... a few in one hit:

The clocks forward back. Why do people say you gain/lose an hours sleep. No I don't, it's Sunday morning, I have as much sleep as I want then get up. I don't care time it is.

Moonraker, entertaining but wasn't the best line "what he doing?" "I think he's tryIng for reentry" bond was floating around under a sheet with a women)

Sport in schools. Mine was pretty good. Track n field, footie, rugby, and outside of it but through a teacher, rowing. Oh,,, darts is not a sport, it's a game, a sport is played athletes.

Best Bond line is from Die Another day.

'We've kept her majesty waiting long enough'.

Crap film, but does have Rosamund Pike in it.
