How do you turn white plastic yellow to match aged plastic?
Leave it in the sun.
Could you do it quicker with one of those UV machines for fake nails? Or isn't it the UV light that ages it?

This is going to bug the hell out of me now!

Every time I drive through a valley I'm going to be wondering where the sewer goes!
Get yourself a hardhat, a hi-viz and go lift a few covers, get a feel for it wink
There will be a layout plan somewhere, not sure how you'd get to look at it though.

Local authorities should have a copy of plans for public foul sewers with details of levels, gradients and depths ... maybe digital now in some cases.

It's the UV that does it.

You could certainly speed it up with higher levels of UV than typical sunlight...

I fancy a cup of the tea that was first identified in Yorkshire and a pasty that was first identified in Cornwall, with a dash of the sauce that was first identified in Worcestershire. Can anyone see how barking that all sounds?
Yeah, barking, you should be using Henderson's Relish, first identified in Sheffield. Though not as barking as trying to buy it in Worcestershire.

No, they are in the hands of the utility companies. You can pay them for a plan.

Why does cold/cool gearbox oil mean your car can change from 1st to 2nd with a bit of a crunch and yet be fine after a few mins when the oil has warmed up. What is happening and why?

At a guess heat is changing the viscosity of the oil. Heat typically makes liquids less viscous, for oils this means it lubricates the parts better

For an experiment at home. Put some oil in a cold frying pan and see how slowly I'd koves around the pan. Then apply heat and observe.

Cooking oil, not engine oil.

Also the components in the gearbox get hot and expand to their normal operating dimensions. I suspect this is the main reason.

Should work with both.... Depends if you plan on using the pan again.

Why do red cars seem to suffer sun-fade more than other colours?

Red paint absorbs all colours except red, and those absorbed colours are at the more energetic end of the spectrum. The sun's light is also strongest in the green wavelength, which is the complementary colour to red, don't know if that's a contributory factor though.

There are many pigments available for colouring plastics / paints / outside stuff.

The higher the light fastness rating of the pigment, the higher the price. The really good ones are very expensive.

Manufacturers try to get away with using the cheapest they can do naturally.

Red is a difficult colour to get good light fastness with cheaper pigments.

Is this specific to a certain vehicle?
It's the synchro hubs which aren't working properly due to the oil being thick and less viscous. Slow your changes down.
Often it's down to the wrong oil being put in there. A gearbox is a box of conflict and has many different criteria to be met.
