Get your facts right. The employee at Burlington arcade was rude and objectionable to me, I didn't say this was Amaya did I? The blonde sales staff was terrible, and to other people I know, I bought some goods and she couldn't even be bothered to speak. The staff at Penfriend on Fleet Street were no better, nor at the previous location in Bush House come to that back in 2007.

Suggest that you don't comment on situations where you were not present, frankly I was talking about the situation at Penfriend Burlington Arcade, 10+ years ago, not whatever the staff or owners are doing now.
Jeez, wind your neck in a bit. That kind of aggressive response is completely uncalled for and is totally disproportionate. This isn't the NP&E forum.

Penfriend are still around. Amaya bought out the original owners and the new stuff became more regularly priced, plus she was not rude. Burlington Arcade owners basically ramped the rent up to extreme levels (she did tell me how much) meaning the independents could not longer afford to stay there, hence why the shops there now are just branches of luxury item makers and almost certainly for marketing only as they are unlikely to make profit at them.
Amaya now sells from her website, by appointment, and at pen shows.

Not sure that response was entirely called for.
You are correct Louis Balfour It wasn't - I even said Amaya had bought it from the people who were rude to K87 (and were often reported as being rude). I was also replying to your comment as you believed (as many do) Penfriend was no more after the B&M closed.

Wow, this thread has changed quite a lot over 24 hrs (and one page).

K87 - you seem to have taken a fair bit of umbrage at one post (and poster). Still, I don't think the original post was meant to be critical of you (in the way you have seemingly taken it) and would suggest your response was a little over the top because you mis-interpreted it.

As CC pointed out (I'm not up with all of the posts or individuals) but this isn't NP&E, so perhaps an apology from both and less quick in responding before thinking, might help?

I am not taking sides, per se, nor am I after an argument.

Please take it on the chin and vent somewhere else if you feel inclined.

Indeed as its about fountain pens, this is a gentleman's thread, so if you have a disagreement, just arrange to meet at dawn and take your pistols.

Presumably pistols rather than swords, because the pen is mightier than the sword but not necessarily mightier than the pistol? wink

Also, reminds me of this Fry & Laurie skit
"Pistol or sword?"
"Sword. It is the only true weapon of a gentleman"
"Very well then. In that case" (turning to the other duellist) "you, sir, have the pistol"
"Wait... sorry? I rather thought that when I chose sword that meant we would both get swords!"

My Pelikan limited edition had an issue with the piston which meant that the piston mounting was pulling away from the barrel.

The pen is 18 years old and has been used daily for much of that time. I contacted Pelikan and following their instructions shipped the pen off to Pelikans UK agent. The agent contacted me and said that they wpuld send the pen to Pelikan, it would take 8 weeks and they word charge me one the pen was returned and fixed. They couldn't say the cost of the repair.

I was apprehensive, an independent had quoted £80 to repair, the factory was likely to me more, especially with international postage.

Pen came back on friday (8 weeks), fully refurbished, working beautifully, charge - £20 including all of the postage etc. It was sent back to me by insured courier.

Great service IMO. Similarly when I bought the pen and wanted the nib changing for a medium, Pelikan just sent me a new nib FOC, they are normally about £200
I went to pay the invoice, turns out I miss read it. The 20 is the VAT rate. The actual charge is nil.

Superb service repairing a pen that’s nearly 20 years old.

My asbo of a 2 year old got his hands on my sheaffer pen. This is the result:

The pen has huge sentimental value. Can anyone recommend a repairer?

Ouch

Wondering if its easier to source a new/used nib unit. Is that the gold version?

You could try here: https://www.theonlinepencompany.com/fountain-pen-n... and there are some on ebay

Thanks for the link. I had a look and a replacement nib is £150! yikes

I'd also like to avoid the triggers broom problem... So hopefully it can be repaired.

What model is it? You might find a direct replacement is not possible.
On repairers:
John Sorowka I think is now effectively retired outside of pen shows.
Eric Wilson might be worth an approach - Eckiethump Fountain pen service and repair - trying to find contact details for him and failing - think he is another that is really just fountain pen shows only.
Jose Munuera is more a nib designer and fettler, not sure he does old school repairs, and moot anyhow as he was Ireland and has now moved to Spain.
Noah Maasarani was making a name for himself but seems to have vanished.
There is always Anabelle Hiller from Appelboom Pens, again not sure if she does old school repairs (she does come to UK pen shows).

Whilst I sympathise, that may be your only recourse. Maybe try to get a second-hand pen of a similar age and then convince yourself that swapping the entire section & nib is just replacing the nib.

Having said that, I totally understand the desire to repair not replace, and I would feel the same on those pens of mine that have similar sentimental value.

I'd imagine a competent nibmeister could fix that, it's bent, not kinked.
I've straightened (cheap) fude nibs myself, when I got the wrong type.

Ideally it needs to be someone who knows those Sheaffer models - those inlaid nibs are surface mounted and can be knocked off - is that an Imperial or PFM ? If it's not too bad you might actually be able to carefully do it yourself.
Found these:

User name checks out.

OP, I am sorry about the damage to your pen.

I had some old Sheaffer pens as a child when we moved to the UK after my father had been killed abroad.

I regret not treating them with the respect they deserved (if only for sentimental reasons). I still hope to find one or two of them amongst my things over time, especially during a planned move to a new house, when (finally) everything I own will be coming out of varous boxes and either chesrished or binned.

Thanks for the contacts and advice. I've sent some photos to a few repairers but none are keen.

So eBay replacement ordered... And I'll have a bash at my own repair in the meantime.

Pretty sure we've had this one before, but I guess there might be some new opinions. I'm nearing the end of my current A5 hardback logbook, what are people's preferences? Ones I've tried so far:

Atlanta - Free from work, there's a reason they're free, fine for a ballpoint but bleeds with a fountain pen
Leuchtturm 1917 - Not bad, doesn't bleed but you see what's on the back (ghosting?). Pocket in the back but no pen holder.
Lammy - Similar to the Leuchterm, pocket and pen holder but I don't like the rough cover.
Red and Black - Again similar to Leuchterm and Lammy, cover feels cheaper though, no pocket or pen holder
Rhodia goalbook - My favorite so far, a little bit of ghosting but less noticeable than the above, slightly less absorbent means better writing but takes a bit longer to dry so can smudge, also has pocket and penholder.

I'll probably just get another Rhodia unless anyone has any better suggestions
