The course finished last night with the gig. I was on second to last so had to stay sober all night but from what people have said my set went down well. In fact PH's very own V8Mate was there and he said he liked it.
Indeed he was. And he did.Is it ok if I post this link, Bruce?

Well done, sounds like a fun experience, and glad it went well for you. Got any plans now that you're finished?
Thanks. The plan now is to get that elusive first gig on the circuit and see how it goes with a fresh audience. In London there are a million gigs so any idiot can get on stage every night (and many do) - so you have to be strict and self filter the crap ones. I may a call from my very first gig that I would never do a gig where I had to bring a mate or flyer drop, etc, etc. I worked on the basis that I added value to their night so there was no need for me to help them out with a crowd!
Video EVERY GIG you do....NEVER fail to video a gig. You never know when you'll storm it and will wish you had the video (and its the only way to judge your stuff). Send your video to anyone and everyone (when you are happy with it.....and ignore the opinion of anyone that knows you, they'll lie) and try to get gigs out of London on "proper" comdey nights ASAP. Open Mic nights with 20 other comics have their place but you'll learn so much more by being on with paid pros to open and close the night.
And enter competitions, I hated them but once you make a couple of finals (get on tv ) it opens up so many doors with promoters that dont know you.
Oh, and set a goal. At your age the chance of anyone ever putting you on TV is a zillion to one so work out what you are doing it for....otherwise you'll get sucked into gigging all the time, never being home before 2am and not sure why you're bothering. Treat it like a job if you want it to be or a hobby if you want that from it...dont blur it.

That was pretty funny Good job, Seems like the audience liked it too, Although you said you were on 2nd to last, So they may have loosened up which is always good!
More like relieved. One other act aside, the remaining ten 'acts' were dire. Worse than dire in many cases.I've never seen so much tumbleweed in a pub.

Seriously (but dumb) question; how do you video yourself when you're on stage? Do you leave the camera in the audience (and risk it getting nicked). Or video from the wings (and perhaps not get the subtleties of your "presentation" style) or do you hold it in front of you, arm out stretched (probably a distraction for the audience)Great thread by the way. Can't see YouTube at work but will check it out when at home.
Good luck with everything too.
I bought a gorillapod tripod so I could hook the camera up anywhere - most pubs have beams and stuff where you can clip it out of the way. Within a few gigs you start to get to know people (i often did 4 or 5 gigs in a week and saw the same acts every time!) so you can ask people to hold it for you.....but you get better quality from a proper set up (not wobbly!) camera.
Bottom line, it may get nicked.....trust me though - drive into London 5 nights a week, wake up at 11am because you are knackered and do sod all real work during the day....... and see if the £100 camcorder that gets stolen is your biggest financial worry!
