I have one cos it makes my face look less fat.

Grew a goatee at Christmas in a daft competition with my Father in Law. Shaved it off only to be told by my wife she liked it. I grew it back and converted it to a full set in April.

It's very salt and pepper, my wife likes it and female friends say they like it. Even one of my most critical and piss taking pals tells me it looks good.

I find those that criticise the way of the beard are those least able to produce one.

When i was younger i waited for the day i could grow a beard.

Finally it seemed my chin hair was good enough and i stopped shaving, only to discover that even though there is no ginger hair anywhere else on my body a large part of my beard was in fact the colour of the devil.

Fast forward a few years and although i have the odd grey hair on my head there is not that much, however i know from another recent experiment that all the ginger in my attempted beard has gone, to be replaced with grey. I am just waiting for my temples to catch up and then finally i will be able to have a beard, one that doesn't look like it has been stuck on in someone else's hair colour!

I'm particularly puzzled by intricate beards. All these people claiming to be freed from the tyranny of shaving and then they are shaving bits, trimming bits, shaping bits to maintain this topiary - what a faff. All the downsides of shaving, all the downsides of beardiness.

Guilty as charged!

I'm 29, have a beard and until recently had the "comb over" haircut. I quite like the beard, although being fairly dark skinned means it needs to be trim to avoid the shoe bomber look. The comb over has gone as it took up the time saved by not having to shave.

Will.

Indeed. Anything more than a weekly going over with a beard trimmer is missing the point of having one in the first place, I feel.

I have a beard because two years ago at Le Mans the Race, What Race? tour rules were a beard of 3mm minimum on boarding the ferry, to be cut back to a muzzer immediately on puking. I survived the week without puking and kind of got used to how it looked.

That's what I've saying every morning for 47 years, "I just can't be bothered..." smile
Pretty much this, got up one morning and just couldn't be bothered, that was 4 months ago.

Mine get's done once a week with a set of clippers, beyond that the only time it gets 'tidied up' is when I go to the barbers and they trim the scraggly bits round the edges.

Not clean shaved for over 2 years and that was only for a job interview. Generally it'll grow out for two months or so making sure it's neatly trimmed then go back to a grade 2 When it gets a bit much

I really really hate shaving, my skin just hates it so I would rather not!

My mum hates it the most but girls love it so it's staying for as long as possible.

I grew a beard a few years ago and had it for a couple of months however the missus decided she didn't like it so I got shot of it, TBF it was a pain in the arse to keep it tidy.

I hate shaving and never ever shave if I'm not working and can grow a decent beard in a week, so if I'm off work on holiday I do tend to grow one but only because I don't like shaving, it comes off whan I'm back at work.

Lots of talk here but no pictures, I shall buck the trend.

My wife likes my beard, she says it makes me look less aggressive, bless.

I think it makes me look like a 'cycle path'.
You can have whatever you want on your face. It's the skinny-legged, spectacle-wearing, bearded boys that I think everyone is criticising.

I do have a decent pair of side burns though which vary in length depending on where I am in my haircut stage, I've had sidies since I was 15, I'm now 39.

You wish.

You look like you should be in a kilt chucking pieces of tree about or competing in Norway's Strongest Man. Surely that beard takes considerable trimming anyway?

People with beards seem happier to side with the laziness argument than the truth, which is that beards are nothing more than vanity.

Beards are the work of the devil.
My current victim is cursed (he might say 'blessed') with far too much facial hair. It had to go; stubble burn is awful.

But..but.. how can that be? As another poster has attested - the girls love them.

I deduce you've never kissed a man with a beard.

I've tried, but they keep breaking free just as I move in. Dash it all.
