I'm skint - Oh no your not.

Skint = lack of immediately available cash
Everybody has their own struggles, just because the things they have are nice/nicer it doesn't mean they have any more available cash than you do.
if you've ever said to someone that you're skint i wonder if they've thought 'well, you could always sell that car or that TV and surround sound system if you were that desperate..'
OP - You budgeting £250 to spend on sinking some speakers into a wall might seem a bit frivolous to some, does that mean you're 'rolling in it' ?

my other halfs sister is a nightmare with money, always claiming shes skint but always out shopping. Whenever there is a family meal she never drives "not enough petrol" never once contributed to a meal "dont have no money" but will happily drink 3 or 4 expensive shots as she knows she's not paying
Same evening she'll be out on the town putting pictures on the web of herself having a good time
Car will need insuring / MOT / tyres the following day, again no money - mum and dad bail her out. Same evening she'll pop up to next or wherever and blow £100 on clothes
Really winds me up as everyone is too scared to suggest she is taking the piss
basically has money for clothes / booze / meals with her friends
Even signed upto an expensive holiday to mexico and the payments were at the end of the month, so good old mum was paying for them
MUGS

I know exactly where I am up to,
I have £209.12 spare until pay day (28th) according to my calculations, taking into consideration normal purchases like shopping, bills, fuel and all that, so that is actual spare, not money in the account. I have put £700 away towards a holiday this month which is two thirds of my spare cash for the month.
So I would consider my position as having a limited amount of spare cash for the next eight days days, after that I have to break into savings, shares etc to release cash, failing that I have credit available if I ever need it, I prefer not to as it costs more and I have usually lost interest in whatever I buy before I have paid for it.
Also, the wife gets paid about now, but she gets paid special money that isnt for spending on boring st like bills and petrol

I don't need to know the ins and outs of someones finances but it does irk me when someone says "I have no money / I am skint", when I know thats not it. If I know you well just say what you actually mean which is "I'm saving really hard this month so don't have it spare".
Saying you don't have it is a white lie that is annoying. I've bought a house and have just said to people, I can't do that as I have to budget for XYZ so that when they see or hear that we have done up our kitchen or I've bought a load of tools for DIY and a shed they'll know I wasn't being disingenious.

I tried to save 500 quid this month but by the end only had 98 quid left.
So I'm now doing pack ups and smoking roll ups instead of nice 20 packs and shop sarnies to see how I get on.
Please don't give me crap over the fags I trying to quit, but it's hard.
Chaps at work are savign quite a bit using the E Cigs, even my mate who was a tabber of some repute has made the change. So I'm now doing pack ups and smoking roll ups instead of nice 20 packs and shop sarnies to see how I get on.

I have 2 mates like this (they're actually families)
The first always buys second hand clothes for their little'un, and let him wear shoes that were too small for 2 weeks, just before they bought a £850k house......... With no mortgage.
The others are massive savers, they tuck away 50% of a combined £100k p/a sallary. Then work any overtime available to cover the poor wage????

You guys should see some of the traders I know...
Keeping up with the joneses majorly, have a £2 million flat rented and spending so much on entertaining and going out to fancy places, yet come 3/4 way through the month they don't have a pot to piss in and are asking for loans.
Live in your means and sod everyone else.

As others have said, my guess would be that he is up to his eyeballs in debt if he genuinely is 'skint'. I was surprised recently having received two letters for two different people who live in my estate demanding immediate payment from individuals who appeared (from the contents of the letters) to be in loads of debt, yet they live in particularly large houses with very nice cars. Just goes to show you!
Before anyone pipes up, I didn't know who the people were and despite 'returning to sender' received further letters! I subsequently found out where the letters should have been posted to.
I hate having any direct debits never mind living life like that - must be bloody horrible.
