DPD Courier - are they really going to deliver tonight?
Discussion
At my work premises, they deliver every damn thing to the Amazon warehouse down the road, and generally, lost for ever. They have lost literally thousands of pounds worth of stuff, have no way of getting it back and simply say 'make a claim for it.'
In our case at work, three NatWest card machines, three Stihl leaf blowers, 5 bottles of chanel, numerous race engine parts...
...their solution? 'Can you try putting the wrong postcode on it...'
Every other courier has found a fix for this. DPD, no, they'd rather pay the compensation.
Good luck with any problem with DPD....

I know i'm a postie .
the mail centers are grid locked , there's to much to fit on the lorries available going out and there's nowhere to unload the lorries coming in and too that royal mail have cancelled the posties sunday overtime so you have entire shifts manned by casual staff who don't know the sorting .
I think I’ll be giving Royal Mail services a wide berth for the rest of the year by the sound of that.the mail centers are grid locked , there's to much to fit on the lorries available going out and there's nowhere to unload the lorries coming in and too that royal mail have cancelled the posties sunday overtime so you have entire shifts manned by casual staff who don't know the sorting .

DPD Luxembourg are excellent. They tell me the delivery time within a 1 hour time slot, and they always meet it.
DPD have generally been pretty good for me (Kent, UK) too, with the same level of service. However with it being the busiest time of year, and RM suffering a barrage of strikes, I think all couriers are struggling to deliver as big customers are moving huge volumes of shipments away from RM. Even Amazon now seems to be showing 2-3 days for prime delivery, whereas it almost always used to be next day if it was being sold and/or shipped from them direct.A500leroy said:

That’s not at all unusual.
My usual working day starts at 06:00 when I leave the house, and on a busy day, (pretty much every day throughout October to mid January), I’ll be doing my last delivery nearing 22:00.
That’s seven days a week, (my last day off was 19th September, next day off Christmas Day & Boxing Day). There’s no breaks save the odd two minutes for a quick cigarette and my lunch often gets thrown in the bin when I get back home at 23:00.
A 14.5 hour day is actually a pretty quiet day for a busy driver with multiple rounds who’s wanting to earn decent money from the job.

I hope you’re on some serious coin and have an understanding missus to continue to do that!

I know this isnt much help but if you really need something day use our Special delivery option, I know its expensive but it will 99.9% turn up ( if you are in cant be left safe), next best option is Royal Mail tracked 24, those are the two top priority items at the moment.
I had to return some important mortgage papers on Monday, unaware there was a postal strike about to happen. Once I was informed of this I paid for the Special delivery guaranteed by 1PM option and it was finally delivered at 7:30 this morning.Next time I will just pay the £85 private courier fee I was quoted if there is a hint of a strike in the next week.
Just had Yodel who after delivering a parcel to the wrong address last week are now telling me they cannot find my address today. Add to this DHL who have dropped my laptop off at a local shop and are incapable of sending me a collection code.
All of them are utter st.
I run a mail order business and I’ve been juggling stuff with Royal Mail since the strikes started, largely out of inertia, but the latest ones and with no end in sight have finally prompted me to do something about it.
Since late last week I’ve been sending everything with either Evri, Yodel or UPS. So far they’ve not missed a beat. Evri are not the fastest but everything has proper tracking unlike Royal Mail’s 2D bar codes on RM24 and RM48 which they never manage to scan more than 80% of. And of course Evri et al are not downing tools for a couple of days each week with the ensuing chaos on each restart.
I called the local RM office this morning to cancel my business collection. He couldn’t get it through in time to stop her turning up today and when she did the van was absolutely heaving. I’m glad there wasn’t any of my stuff to be added to that mountain.
The manager at the office asked how long I wanted to stop the collection for and sounded a bit non-plussed when I said “probably forever”. I’m just one of many who will have been forced to make this decision as I can’t carry on trying to run a business like this.
I’m not judging the rights and wrongs of either side’s case, but if they don’t get this sorted soon there will be no business left.

It’s not safe at all. But I’m contracted to service a number of rounds, with nice bonuses for meeting certain targets and fat, juicy kickers for clearing backlog from other rounds.I hope you’re on some serious coin and have an understanding missus to continue to do that!
It’s that time of year when it all goes mental for a few months. You put in the graft and you earn the coin, because come February the job will be on its arse.
It’s now 04:57 and I’m sat having breakfast. I’ll be leaving for work in an hour, returning back home around 22:00-23:00. I feel utterly run-down, ill almost, physically and mentally exhausted. But what other options do I have? Like everyone else, I’ve got a family to support.
So now you see why delivering parcels isn't a level playing field.
On the one hand you have royal mail etc where the vans are kitted out with Trimble's monitoring who's driving, excessive braking acceleration cornering and scoring the driver to other companies that sub the work and any responsibility out.

Back to the crumbling reputation of DPD.
Used to think they were the gold standard, new iPhones direct from apple, delivered in a definite one hour slot. Excellent service.
Yesterday, we started chasing up the delivery we should have had the day before. I had seen a DPD van on our street but they hadn’t come to ours. Youngest son and I were in all day as he was off school with a Mum confounding “cough”.
Checked the details on the website, showed a photo of the parcel in a random entry way with the recipients foot next to it. Our name entered in the recipients details and claimed to have been delivered here. No parcel, no card left, no way of telling who or where had accepted the parcel.
Rang the firm we bought off, they checked and DPD said they had delivered it, to no. 2, across the road and a few doors down. We checked with no. 2, no sign of any parcel. Got back in touch with the firm. They sighed and said we'll start the process of sending a new order out.
Later, the occupant of no. 6 brought our parcel round.
We have cancelled the replacement order.
DPD are now tainted for us after being one of the trusted couriers in our house for a long time.

100hr+ weeks with absolutely no respite or restdays driving a vehicle is irresponsible. The money may be good but the the risks simply ain’t worth it both for yourself, your family and for me who may be driving towards you when you finally fall asleep the wheel.
And people moan about unions…

To close my part of this thread out, my DPD parcel, originally out for delivery on Tuesday, has just turned up.
I think they must have put one of their better men on the mopping up operation. My heart sank when I got the message on the app this morning to tell me I was drop number 80, but this guy has roared through them all. The previous one was only getting to 65 or so by 7:30pm and was finishing for the day.
