We have 2 DL’s in Leicester.

One is a full on racquet club the other a gym, pool, classes and cafe place.

I’m a member of the non racquet place which costs £54 pm. However I can use any other DL gym in the country apart from 5 or 6 (including the posher Leicester one). Handy for me as most other DL’s are better clubs and I work away from home a fair bit.

My gym is dated compared to the racquet clubs, both changing facilities and ‘club’ areas are in need of a refurb but I suspect if they ever do, prices will go up.

Coincidence here but I've just got back from a DL club. I had a free pass because my mate is a member.

I've been paying £20 odd a month for Puregym for the past 2 years.... very busy in the evenings due to how cheap it is. The DL club on the other hand, I was shocked how different it felt overall. Cafe, restaurant, courts, sauna, pool and gym section, it had the lot! I only use the free weights and a few machines so it would be very expensive for me for limited facility usage but it wasn't busy, completely the opposite to my local Puregym where us peasants go rolleyes Don't think I can stomach the high cost just for a quiet free weight area.

I've been a member of Pure for a couple of years and as already said it is great if you want an actual workout place and aren't bothered about swimming pools or cafes serving quinoa coffee cake.

The one thing I am surprised about with coronavirus doing the rounds is that they haven't temporarily put in any anti-bacterial cleaning stuff for the equipment.

I think I'm going to check out an intermediate option... My local Nuffield Health is £52/month for full facilities and if the gym weights section is as quiet and spacious as the David Lloyd club then I can just about stomach the cost.

Monday evening at Puregym is an absolute nightmare because it's completely rammed which really taints the experience whereas Monday evening at David Lloyd was the equalivant to a Sunday morning at Puregym.

My local Nuffield Health are offering a weeks free trial pass so I'm gonna try that next week.

If you have Vitality life insurance you can get decent discounts on Nuffield membership - I've just joined their Leeds gym for that reason. £24 a month, no contract, peak access.

Anyone know the cost for NHS ?
They seem to be offering a 3 months free if you sign up for 12 months.
Probably only interested in the pool and sauna. Maybe if they have decent bikes too.

I don’t know if NHS get a discount but bear in mind they demand 3 months notice if you want to leave and they will enforce it. I think there is a new deal where you can have 1 month notice but it increases the monthly cost. I am on my notice period as it is now impossible to book a tennis court in the evening as there are so many coaches and they take all the courts. I don’t use the gym. A lot of people are leaving post Covid so there may be deals available

Jesus Christ £120 a month for a gym and a swimming pool?! That's absolutely mental.

For perspective, my local 24hr gym used to be a Fitness First back in the day, but has since changed hands is now a 247-fitness. It has free weights, cardio equipment, classes etc. and even a sauna and steam room (currently closed due to COVID) but that sets me back a whopping £100 per year, or £8.33 per month.

we did DL for a couple of years its was 85+ each per month, swim, gym no tennis.
Place always felt a bit dated and needed a good refresh. Wasn't too bad to be fair and the staff were pretty good
Quite a few 'keighley car sales' types who delighted in hogging the Jacuzzis and speaking in loud voices drove white range rovers with ttty plates that parked in the disabled spaces because they had a poor grasp of the basics of behaviour, I used to complain and it was funny when the staff put stickers on the windscreens telling them not to park there. That was east bridgeford a few years ago, it might have improved

DL do still do NHS discount

They also offer 50% discount on platinum memberships if you have a personal or corporate Vitality plan

I enquired recently at the Newcastle one - thinking about post-Covid deals with the volumes of people leaving, the best they would do with NHS discount was £80/mth for full access

Crazy, isn't it? Last time I looked at joining my local "Active" Gym (just outside Bristol) it was £30 a month for gym and swim.

Perhaps someone could explain the science because as a relatively well educated individual I find it baffling.

In my local retail park there is a gym beside the Halfords. Under the rules I can't go into the Halfords for 10 minutes without wearing a mask.

However I can go into the gym beside and sweat my balls off for an hour or more and a mask is not required. Now I'm not a scientist but it's bloody obvious my aerobic rate is going to be a lot more rapid in a gym than in a shop.

The risk of catching Covid is going to be higher in the gym.

The fit people in the gym wont be at risk like the fat people down the pub.

That's not the point is it? It's about the practicality of wearing a mask and wearing it where possible to minimize risk. In a gym you can't wear a mask. In a shop you can.

Does a hotel at £500+ a night offer that much more than a £100 a night hotel?

It's about people with good jobs wanting to mingle with other like them, (and probably single broke women joining to reel in a rich guy hehe).
