The banks are hart broken that they have there snouts in every transaction.
Despite the spelling errors, I agree with the sentiment.

There's nothing tin foil about it. The end game is total control over money. Once cash is gone they can bail out, bail in, introduce negative interest rates, surveil you, shut you down and whatever else they fancy.

It boggles my mind that people are running towards it and not questioning it for a moment.

In the past I would have been against it, but after visiting Stockholm I would be fine with it.

All the locals we spoke to preferred it over cash.

The argument against cashless is no different to those saying the model T would never replace the horse and every other big change like that.
Hardly.

I'd have never argued that the Model T wouldn't have replaced the horse.

I can't imagine the village fete taking cards on every stall soon.

Coconut shy with a contactless card machine? I think not.... for a long while at least.

My other half raises over £5k a year for the RSPB ... badges of birds - box on the counter - quid each. When will that cardboard box have contactless?

Eventually, of course, but no time soon.
Spot on.

My argument is different. Spending on a credit card is proven to make you spend more than if you pay with cash. Same for Apple Pay or similar. Going cashless is in the benefit of the retailer. The person who looses out is the consumer.

I imagine the bulk of coke and hookers transactions are cash.

In a pub behind KX on the regents canal a few weeks ago , cards only sign .

They stopped accepting cash about 6 weeks previously , asked the barman why , his reply was the delivery of change and cash collection charges were becoming far too expensive, management took the decision to end payment by cash and he said it was working fine.

It’s the future.

I’m saying that from the old fashioned bloke who likes a few bob in his pocket.
We visited a café in Aberfeldy (Scotland) last month that didn't take cash. They had a sign saying their bank had closed in town and it was 2 to 3 hour round trip just to bank cash, so went cash only.

Can't remember the last time I used cash for anything to be honest.
The same occured to me the other day. I'd be happy with a cashless society. I only use cash when there is no other alternative.

I’ve had issues using cards in the USA where they require a zip code and won’t accept a uk postcode, also when I visited Japan a few years ago I was warned that western cards wouldn’t work. Presumably tourists visiting here might have the same problems.

Just back from Australia and i took $A250 and never needed it, everywhere uses cards and you can tap up to $A100 (about £50).
I used a Halifax clarity and the payment was showing on the app, in pending, often within minutes.

I'm 32 and I've never written a cheque, received a few.
used to be a pain receiving them as I had to find time to go to the bank but now if I get one you can cash it using your banking app which is great!

Post office only accepts cash for certain bill payments. Infact nearly every small shop accepts cash only on gas electric etc but card for anything else.

Also on those pay point machines, swipe a TV license card/barcode it comes up with a warning "cash only transaction" and wont allow the machine to accept card for it. Long way away from cashless

...and then there's the 1.6 million people in the UK without a bank account. No card payments for them.
