Here in Beeston (few miles outside of Nottingham) it's finally stopped raining after about 3 solid days of wet stuff! The sun is out - sort off - so I'm off for a walk around the local nature reserve. I'm interested to see how much the river (Trent) has risen in the last couple of days.

Well, lots of berries in the hedgerows this year which is one sign of a hard winter, according to old people.Here in Beeston (few miles outside of Nottingham) it's finally stopped raining after about 3 solid days of wet stuff! I've just spoken to my brother who lives in the South of France in Breil Sur Roya in the Roya valley.
Total devastation courtesy of Storm Alex. Luckily his house is about 1,000ft above the village and valley floor which were hit very badly. All power and water is out as are the main roads.
He had to drive out via the old mountain roads to buy provisions and get a mobile signal which is where he phoned me from. He reckons such is the devastation it is going to take months to get back to any kind of normality and years to repair the main valley road.
