Great photos, but this gives rise to something that has always bothered me - ho do they get those cranes up there? In fact, how do really tall cranes get put up anywhere?

No circular stuff about getting a bigger crane along to lift it into place please!!!

I class anything where the fall will kill you as high. So yes it is rather. You must be a mental.

In this post I quite like the "fall will kill you" bit as the three words in a row ending in "ll" make it look a bit more interesting.
The fall probably wouldn't kill you, the sudden stop at the bottom would smart a bit though wink

And there was me feeling rather proud of myself, taking myself and my severe fear of heights onto the roof of the North Stand at Old Trafford and then abseiling back down. the going down bit was fine, it was sitting in the seats at the top of the stand waiting, and then having to walk across the roof.

They build them up by adding sections, each floor they go up they can raise the crane a bit higher, till it gets to the top.

Did anyone see Man on Wire when it was shown on BBC recently? It's about the guy who walked a rope between the two WTC towers in the 70s, showing how they planned it etc - it's superb.

good to be able to browse the photos, some look good, some do not smile

used to be really not good with heights and then went on some hang gliding course at edale, being 500 foot up and the realisation that you could fail badly, made it much less of an issue

doubt i would go abseiling down some building, but it helps smile
what's the picture you linked to??
I reckon that's the Grand Hyatt in Shanghai (or inside the Millennium Falcon or something wink)

Yup, that's the view down to the Atrium in the Jin Mao Tower. Floors 55 to 87 are the Grand Hyatt, and it has the record of being the highest (from ground level) hotel in the World. I stayed there back in 2002, it's quite a view from your room!

Agreed. Once you're high enough that a fall will be fatal then any more height is academic really.
