Would you leave the UK if you could?
Discussion
Without a shadow of a doubt.
I have visited Australia half a dozen times in the last 6 months through work (I am typing this from my hotel room in Brisbane at the moment) & absolutely love it over here.
It is certainly not cheap to live here (or maybe I'm just drinking at the wrong bars!), but the way of life is just fantastic. Everyone seems to be so happy & contented with life & very respectful towards each other. There is a chav / bogan element over here, but it is certainly not as noticable as the underclass in the UK.
Given the choice, I would pack in the UK & be over here like a shot.

I honestly can't think of anywhere i'd rather live except London.
New york? Roads are too organised, difficult to get lost.
LA? No thanks, I appreciate functioning lungs thank you.
Paris? Don't speak French.
Oz? Too expensive.
NZ? Too bloody far away!
Barcelona? Could be a goer.
I absolutely love this city and have no reason to bugger off elsewhere.

Hmm places I would like to live:
France
Finland
Asia
Assuming I could keep my London job and do it remotely for the first two (when is this going to happen and why is it not now).
Asia would be to move jobs there as they are similar to the ones here in London and bonus is I can bugger off and go and see some of the most exciting dive spots for the long weekends.
O/H is similar but not liking France as much as me.

The thread that never dies.
Greener Grass Syndrome. If my family (parents and my children) weren't here I would move back to England in a flash.
Anyone thinking about moving to Oz, do yourself a favour and spend some time in the Oz forum...
Quite a nice place, a lot going for it, unless you like cars that is.

Pondering lifes options as I stare out of the window I was wondering whether its time to get out of the UK.
So imagine you had the following:
I have all of the above (left the USA to move here in 2003) and would rather stay here. How many of you wanting to move abroad have actually lived and worked in those countries vs gone there on holiday with a pocketful of money and no cares in the world?.So imagine you had the following:
- The Visa/Passport to travel and work without restriction in USA
- The funds to move; and
- A good chance of finding work overseas
Grass is always greener and all that.

I would. But my wife wouldn't, not while her folks are still around.
Indeed, I had a job offer in the late 90s in western Australia but she didn't want to move away from mummy, in fact when a house came up for sale next to her mother she pleaded with me to buy it!!fecking old bag.
When I was younger I lived in Cyprus and couldnt wait to get back to the UK...however now I have kids I can certainly see the upsides of moving back. Climate is great, its safe, relatively cheap, they drive on the correct side of the road and my parents and older bro all live out there.
Not saying I would wan't to anytime soon but I am starting to warm to the idea...not sure my Mrs would feel the same.

Barcelona is nice, lived there for a bit. But it's a town compared to London.New york? Roads are too organised, difficult to get lost.
